The GOP Jobs Program

Rate: 2 Flag
Okay, I'm going to say it in public. The Republican attack on women's health care is really a jobs program. If they can return us to the bad old days when women had no control over our fertility, they can roll back the Equal Opportunity laws. They don't have to create any new jobs if they can eliminate 50% of the eligible candidates.

Those of us who are old enough remember "Help Wanted-Male" and "Help Wanted-Female" columns in the newspaper. All the good jobs were in the "Male" column. Women were excluded because "they'll only get pregnant and quit" and "men need money to raise their families, women are working for 'pin money.'" Women could be excluded from the hiring process, and could be fired if they became pregnant.

I even remember, the first office I worked in, maternity benefits were only offered to married men. We can't go back to those days. All the Republican nattering about "protecting the unborn" is about kicking women out of the workforce.

Of course it is scribble. I also think there is something else involved... as I recall, women owning property (other than Dower Rights) was not all that commonplace.

Now... if they can eliminate half of the work force, how long will it be before they dismantle property rights for women as well?
It won't take long, Mrs. R! And once they push women back to second-class citizenship, the gay folks and the brown folks will be easy targets!
