This site is a two year writing experiment I call "P, B & J" (Prayer, Bible, and Journal) which follows a two year Bible reading plan. (A link to this reading plan is at My Links below.) As I read Bible, I look for an inspirational verse and write about it. These articles are my P, B & J journal entries. I hope you enjoy them. ________________________________ Bible guy, happily married, 7 kids, 1 cool grandkid, Realtor. If you want more, check out "My Story" at My Links below. "Assurance"

Rate: 1 Flag
Deuteronomy 28.66 Amplified Bible

“Your life shall hang in doubt
before you; day and night you shall be worried, and have no assurance of your life.”

This text describes the man or woman without Christ. Every man must eventually stand before his Maker. On her deathbed, the unrepentant woman will worry about the hereafter. Their lives will someday “hang in doubt” and fear will plague their thoughts. Unbelievers have “no assurance of [eternal] life”.

Assurance of salvation is available to anyone who wants it...

“These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the
Son of God, so that you may know that you have eternal life.
1st John 5.13 NASU

“But as many as received Him [Jesus Christ], to them He gave the right
to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name.”
John 1.12 NASU

We may have assurance. We may know we have eternal life. It is apparently as easy as asking. Our home in heaven is secured by the simple act of believing “in the name of the Son of God” and receiving His gracious offer of a personal relationship.

Undoubtedly, many will claim that while they have doubts about Jesus, they do not suffer “day and night” with worry about their future with God. They have no assurance of eternal life and they do not care. The hereafter is of no present concern. Skeptics admit no need of Christianity or any other religious system. Their lives appear full and relatively happy. They presume heaven, if there is such a place, will take care of itself.

But the end of life, as with most other things in life, does not usually go as planned. Ultimately unbelievers “shall be worried”. Their eternal lives will “hang in doubt before” them. Lost souls will “have no assurance of… life.”

I must speak up so one day when they need assurance, they might have it.

My husband thinks that when you die it's just "over," whereas I can't imagine getting through the day if I thought it was just "over." When my mom was dying, people from the local church came by & offered prayer & comfort & "assurance," as they do for many of the residents (& family members) at the nursing home. It was a real kindness.
Hi Again, Suzie. I was at both my mother's side (last November) and my dad's (5 years ago) when they took their last breaths. I am confident they are now in heaven. I am glad for that assurance. Thanks again for sharing with me.
Don't have your assurance, Dave--but I love the painting you found for this post--it's brilliant!
Thanks AHP for the comment. By the way, I had to remove the former artwork you referred to in your comment. I asked permission of the artist who kindly declined siting the "religious opinion-heavy content" of my post. His artwork is superb but I fully respect his opinion and honored his request to remove. Hopefully the new cartoon above will help with the point of the post. I appreciate you, AHP.
I think it's funny. that cartoon.
so did I, IJ. Thanks.
