Diagnosed with a disorder, Susanna Kaysen is sent to a mental institution, where she enters the skewed world of people who truly belong on the inside. Angelina Jolie won an Oscar for her portrayal of a seductive patient who befriends Kaysen.
My Review
Phenomenal movie. No holes. This movie was especially poignant to me because my friend experienced this. A friend of mine here, another OSer spent time as teenager when her mother gave into her frustration and put her there. The social worker who she lived with after, Jeanne Ihlenfeldt, actually helped her to realize what Wynona’s psych told her. I am grateful to this movie because is pognantly belivable.
Now, yes, Angelena was good, but again, typecast, so it didn't take much to pull it off. So why the Acadamy Award? Wynona Rider was doing her clepto thing back then and Oscar was probably afraid she'd take off with all the Oscars (didn't they actually come up stolen anyhow?) Now the reak award is Brittany Murphy. Her role was compelling.
So I give it 4.5 stars (.5 less because of the misguided award)
