Harry Belafonte has said that Obama doesn’t need a second term. Belafonte essentially believes that we all know what we need to know — about the sitting United States president, and that a second term would not reveal anything new. In an interview on the Smiley and West radio program Belafonte wondered, “[H]ow could he have had such a splendid opportunity to do more than most presidents would have ever been able to do, and he let that opportunity slip away from him?” Belafonte also questioned, “What legacy will he leave, having the opportunity to serve under such hugely dramatic circumstances and had such a huge impact on the universal state of things?” Additionally, he said that Obama lacked a moral compass, and without that kind of barometer needed — to guide him through his decisions — he has failed to make the requisite, necessary, rightful and proper impact (and changes).

"Harry Belafonte's signature lyric "Day-O" made him a global icon when it was released in 1956. Even at age 84, the beloved calypso singer recently showed a Harlem audience that he's still got it.
"It was standing room only at Hueman Bookstore, when the famed actor held a book signing for his new autobiography "My Song". NY1 was given exclusive access as Belafonte reflected on his historic career where he became the first recording artist to sell one million copies of an album.
"Calypso made him a superstar, but Belafonte is most proud for standing up for what he believed in.
""I wasn’t an artist who became an activist. I was an activist who became an artist," Belafonte said.
"As an activist, he marched side by side with The Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King during the Civil Rights Movement often risking his career and his life.
"Harry Belafonte also raised millions of dollars to help Civil Rights workers and often condemned American foreign policy.
"He took some heat for calling President George W. Bush a terrorist and he does not mince words when talking about President Barack Obama either.
""I feel that what’s at stake here is Barack Obama has lost his moral compass," Belafonte said. "You said you were gonna end Guantanamo and torture. Well Guantanamo still exists and torture is still in our presence."
"Belafonte says his criticism of much of President Obama's foreign policy is not personal, but he says he takes great pride in exercising his First Amendment rights. However, the Harlem-born activist stunned the audience with this admission about the current president, saying, "I’ll tell you this much: I’m voting for him."
His guesses have not been good in the past. Remember, literally every Oscar Sidney Poitier ever won was a role first offered to and turned down by his friend Belafonte. He even refused a role in Porgy and Bess because he thought it racist - though he later did, ‘secretly’ record it with Lina Horn and that masterwork is almost impossible to find today. Too bad for us all!
So much for lecturing others about ‘barometers’ and ‘compass’ — he got lost in his own career path. Fortunately he got good enough investment advice (real estate & the building he lives in) that he need not worry about making too many more dumb career choices.
Thought I respect him Belafonte is not a person I’d consult for wisdom and advice.
Smiley and West are also very disgruntled Obama supporters and I won’t go into West’s silly screeds except to say, that even before the snaggletooth professor decided to support Obama his first question was “Brother, where did you get the money.” So West supported Obama knowing full well where the money came from.
