It's difficult to carry on a conversation and not tar all with the same brush when using a term, isn't it?
'Rescue' does leave a bad taste in the mouth of many breeders, because many rescue *individuals* are still yet unaware-uneducated-whatever about the BSL that is sweeping the US (and many other countries). Many breeders are as well - don't get me wrong, many *individual* breeders leave a bad odor behind them as well for their own attitudes.
Rescue has for the most part 'adopted' the terminology used by the ARists to promote their agenda - 'politically correct' folk have done this as well. I put adoption in quotes because this was the top of the slippery slope that animal ownership is now on - it led to the use of the term 'guardian'. There are still way too many in rescue and the show world who are unaware of the legal ramifications these terms carry - who still can't see the fire for the smoke.
I'm curious. What makes the difference - literally - in the raising of food animals, and the raising of pet animals? Ever given that any serious thought? I'm not attacking anyone's feelings on the thing - I'm genuinely curious about this. An animal is either an animal, or it's not (assuming there is a moral difference between humans and animals). Surely most here are aware of the current AR trend to gain the other primates human-equivalent status in the courts. Why draw the line at primates? Why not all animals - they're all sentient beings?
Why do we get into arguments about pet breeders using the same practices that are used with farm livestock?
Personally I suspect that primates rose to the top of the AR agenda due to their similarities with humans, and they don't have a tail to wag ;). Oh, and BSL, for newbies, stands for Breed Specific Legislation.

I got HaHa from an international rescue association, usually ladies who help connect pets and people. Found out HaHa is park Pekingese which explains why he is such a big pug. The woman who rescued him is an angel who at last count has a no kill facility with 50 dogs and 200 cats. Some people are put here to help the animals, and some animals are put here to be people food. Circle of life...
