I don't post a lot, but am guilty of commenting just about everywhere vociferously ;). ------------------------- It is said that honesty is a virtue and this is a truth. It is the expression of that virtue, however, that is too often abused. Thinking Out Loud

Rate: 5 Flag

This is the last of the Dog Blog posts dear Readers, at least for the moment ;).

This is not directly animal related, but it is related to our rights and how easy it is to lose them, either in part or completely.

Decades ago a man decides to build a barn on his property and he and a few neighbors do just that.

Today whatever you decide to build on your property, chances are you have to check your city/county/state laws and building codes first.

Now consider this ; it has been given as reasonable that we have to do this. Insurance coverage, the abilities of local fire departments to respond to trouble, and even appearance - does it look up to standard for the neighborhood? Of course within a certain way of thinking these reasons are reasonable.

But the fact remains that you can no longer decide you want to build an out-building on your own property without getting permission - from someone else - to do so first.

This is where we're headed with all of this cockamamie legislation that is being proposed by some well meaning and many more not-so-well meaning people. We'll have to get permission to have an animal, and only a certain kind of animal will be allowed, we'll only be able to purchase it from approved distributors, and it will be purchased in a condition that precludes any thought of reproduction, and we will have guidelines to follow that dictate the conditions it is to live in, what it will consume, what activities we may do with it, how often we take it for veterinary exams, what vaccinations it will be given - and how it will end it's life and when.

Until there are no more domestic animals.

And this will happen because 'we' all learned to think that having strict 'humane' guidelines for all to follow was reasonable..

Again, my apologies for this massive lot of posts dropped here on my innocent and unsuspecting readers 8-O.   IF however you find yourselves interested, please track backwards to the beginning (I've lost count ;).

I actually see a tremendous increase in the number of domestic animals. They are and will be of the species Homo Sapiens. The care and feeding of such creatures will be specified in great detail by a government that has only "their" best interest at heart.
Yes the lord gives it and the government takes it away. How the two are connected is one fasinating bit of legislature.
You'll know we're really in trouble when they regulate stuffed animals
I agree it's annoying to have to get permits for everything. But, when you look at some of the stuff people build, you kinda get it.
Joisey I'm talking more about the lack of thought in the hands of knee jerk reaction here, not about the lack of any laws at all. Yes we certainly need good common sense laws - it's the lack of common sense, and the personal agendas that accompany many of these proposed laws that I'm addressing - and applies to much more in today's society than the relative sliver that is the animal owning public :).
Like many of our problems, this one is probably related to human overpopulation. The human population has more than doubled since 1970! We strain the planet's resources as well as our own.
