Bio
Animals, reading, lakes, forests, western deserts and the ocean top my list of favorite things. Birth date above is my OS start date, year 2010. I don't post a lot, but am guilty of commenting just about everywhere vociferously ;). ------------------------- It is said that honesty is a virtue and this is a truth. It is the expression of that virtue, however, that is too often abused. Considered and considerate use of the virtue of honesty is a rarely practiced art. ------------------------- There are many in this world who walk a tight rope in work boots and are heartily surprised when they inevitably fall.

It's October, and while this always has and will mean All Hallows to me, it is also Breast Cancer Awareness Month.   I don't 'think pink' but I do think of an extraordinary woman I 'met' here at Open Salon who began to blog when she entered her 4th and as the Fates would have it last bout with this nemesis.   In honor of Marjorie Walker I'm sharing a link to a UK Huffington Post dedicated to her by the author, who was her friend.

http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/david-finkle/unforgettable-characters-_b_903580.html

But this dedicated post is not all there is to read.   Her blog (there were two, this one at OS, and the one which is linked in the article and below) is good writing, good reading, and contrary to it's subject *extremely* life affirming.   Whether cancer has touched your life or not every musing she penned about her circumstance is well worth the time it will take you to read.   Her personal goal was to reach 100 posts - she fell short by 7 - but 7 of the many she knew made certain to achieve that goal in her absence.

I've met many here at OS that I enjoy reading, even consider to be friends ; we've lost some of them in one way or another over time, but their spirits linger on here in these 'hallowed halls'.   This woman is one of them that I'll not forget.

Here's to you Marjorie..

I'm going to the doctor, then I have to take Terri to the beauty parlor to get a strip of her hair dyed pink. It has now been six years since she was diagnosed with breast cancer. She almost dyed, then two years later her I had my prostate removed because of prostate cancer, so I have intimate knowledge of cancer, like so do so many families. My dad died of a cancer that is curable now, so they are making progress everyday, just not fast enough for some people, unfortunately.
Agreed.

May Marjorie Rest In Peace.
We need to be asking just why are cancer rates so high.
Marjorie...may the memory of you live long and be spread widely too.
Amen! You are such a fine person. R
We all know someone with cancer. Or have been touched by cancer ourselves. Its time to ask what’s going on and how do we stop this. Rated,
I remember reading Marjorie's posts -- and looked back through them just now. She was an amazing woman, tackling life on her own terms. I just wish we could work fast enough to make every hard journey end with jubilation.
She will be missed. Thank you for such a loving tribute and for reminding us of BCA. Every year, I buy something that I wear for the rest of the year so everyone can see. I even have BCA golf balls.
I loved reading Marjorie when she wrote here. I miss her wonderful
sense of humor and kind heart.

Seer, you are a good man. I grew up in Huntington West Virginia on a farm right across the river from Kentucky. Where are you from there? I was in the Army at Fort Knox and Fort Campbell.
