Now living in Portland, Oregon, by way of Phoenix, St. Louis, Caribou (Maine), Merced (California), Columbus (Mississippi), Colorado Springs, and my home town of Detroit. 1976 graduate of the US Air Force Academy - went on to fly B-52s in SAC. (Bet you thought "Dr. Strangelove" was fiction, eh?)Eclectic tastes, with a huge distain for phonies and poseurs, with pretension being one of the greatest sins of all. Nostalgic for the days of (hosted) Friday-night 'Creature Features' and Saturday matinees. But I'm also a fan of 'art house' movies and 20th century Swedish composers. I think the 'Great American Novel' has already been written (considering Wolfe's 'Look Homeward, Angel' and 'Of Time and the River' as really one book) but the Great American Movie hasn't been made (although there are a few current runners-up). 'Zippy the Pinhead' is the greatest comic strip in the history of the format, Pettersson's Symphony #7 is the greatest symphonic work of the last 75 years, and a rainy Sunday afternoon in Portland beats a sunny day in LA ANYTIME. 'The Prisoner' was the last intelligent show on television, 'Mystery Science Theater' was by far the funniest, and Saxer's Jack Frost Dopplebock is (or now.....WAS) the best beer on the planet. 'Fahrenheit 451' is the REAL Book of Revelations, and Glenn Beck is the anti-Christ. I'll take Bruckner and Mahler over Mozart or Tchaikovsky ANY day. I think Gardiner is a fake and a speed-freak and that it's WAY too fashionable to bash Karajan now that he's dead. All good things come to an end, and when 'they' find out I like something, 'they' quit making it. Other opinions free upon request.
