Roadside Texas

Rate: 21 Flag

Working on the next book, too drained to pound out the requisite 500-800 words, where a simple picture will do. Herewith, a look at stuff by the side of the road in Texas. Strictly scenic and or/alive, which means that - Sorry, you'll have to go someplace else for the titzup armadillo with a beer bottle in its paws.

Amazing what an artist's eye can see (and capture) that others would simply drive by.

Rated (for "funct", among other things)
great representation of those back road sights -- I need a road trip.
Nice shots that take me back to the homeland. But I have to admit some days I feel pretty "functed."
Nice pics, Sgt Mom. I thought maybe these were in response to the Open Call scupper called for after my Happy Places post last night; they'd make good happy places. Thanks for sharing these here.
Very nice. There is something about those old, long abandoned buildings, that really affect me. Thanks for sharing these!
Thanks for sharing the photos. Enjoyed them.
How come none of the places I ever visited looked that nice? But then agian it was Borger and Marfa so what do you expect.
Thanks for sharing these photos. I have never been to Texas and nice to see the Texan roads. I especially like the second photo with the old car.
Ah - it's just what catches your eye, and how to frame the camera - practically anything can be made to look attractive, or at least interesting, by framing it right.
The back roads are wonderful, though - two lanes, maybe a passing lane, and nothing but scenery on either side, scenery and little towns.
Kathy and P - you would love the old Hot Wells ruins - they aren't generally open to the public now, but I was doing pictures to go with a freelance article for a local mag, and I had permission. It was a wonderful place - I had the feeling that it was haunted, but in a good way. People had experienced nothing much but pleasure and enjoyment there, and it lingered on. The place had a very serene feel about it.
Alas, ON - that's far, far west Texas. Which is what people see in the movies, mostly - (It's desert, people! Desert! Dry as a bone! They filmed movies in the starkly spectacular parts - but it's still a desert!) - the thing that I think most people don't expect is that at least half of Texas is rather green and attractive. Meadows, and pine-woods, and stands of oaks, and nice-looking rivers ... not Cotswold or Lake District post-card scenic ... but still quite beautiful - as you can see here.
Nice selection Sgt. Maybe next time, could you broaden it a bit to include the “titzup armadillo with brewski in paws”? … A Lone Star or PBR would be great. cheers.
Wow! Only been in airport in Texas. I hear it is another country.

Beautiful photos. You have a great eye. Love the Defunct Stop-n-Go.

I use the "seeing the elephant" metaphor a lot.
