Working on the next book, too drained to pound out the requisite 500-800 words, where a simple picture will do. Herewith, a look at stuff by the side of the road in Texas. Strictly scenic and or/alive, which means that - Sorry, you'll have to go someplace else for the titzup armadillo with a beer bottle in its paws.

The back roads are wonderful, though - two lanes, maybe a passing lane, and nothing but scenery on either side, scenery and little towns.
Kathy and P - you would love the old Hot Wells ruins - they aren't generally open to the public now, but I was doing pictures to go with a freelance article for a local mag, and I had permission. It was a wonderful place - I had the feeling that it was haunted, but in a good way. People had experienced nothing much but pleasure and enjoyment there, and it lingered on. The place had a very serene feel about it.
Alas, ON - that's far, far west Texas. Which is what people see in the movies, mostly - (It's desert, people! Desert! Dry as a bone! They filmed movies in the starkly spectacular parts - but it's still a desert!) - the thing that I think most people don't expect is that at least half of Texas is rather green and attractive. Meadows, and pine-woods, and stands of oaks, and nice-looking rivers ... not Cotswold or Lake District post-card scenic ... but still quite beautiful - as you can see here.
