Road Trip Over the Border

Rate: 3 Flag

(I went with a friend to visit some other friends, who are 'Winter Texans' -retirees from the upper middle-West who spend the coldest months of winter down in the Rio Grande Valley. During the visit, we made a day-trip to Progresso, Mexico. Which as you can see, is a hotbed of economic activity, especially as regards dentists, plastic surgeons, purveyers of spiritious liquers, as well as various consumer goods.)

(Actually, I escaped without buying anything but a pendent - a fossil of a shell, set in silver - but a lot of what was for sale was more interesting, than really tempting.)

I miss Mexico . . . I need a road trip.
Like Owl, I miss Mexico, even the border towns, and am very envious of your day trip. Your pix do a great job of capturing the local flavor.
That's a fine neighbor we've got......
It was quite enjoyable - and the vendors and shopkeepers were actually quite reasonable and helpful. We had dinner at a restaurant (rather high-end) on the main street... the only trouble was, that restaurants on both sides of the border dial back the seasoning in stuff like salsa so very far! I think they are trying not to shock the heck out of the Winter Texan's delicate palates ... but the result is salsa that is only slightly less bland than ordinary ketchup....
