Words

Rate: 2 Flag

That Obama sure do talk fancy.   And boy, does it piss some people off.  Or maybe they're just scared.  But I love words.  The better your ability to use them, the more you understand them, the more you realize their true power, the more of my respect you have.

Before my son was born I wrote a blog post about my main concerns as an impending parent, one of them being language.   I don't get caught up in the whole 'good words'/'bad words' thing that so many people become ensared in.

Words convey thoughts, emotions, history.  Inadequate as they may seem (and they are hardly that at all), alas, they are what we have.  More can be conveyed in a quick "fuck you" than can be told in the entirety of some novels.  (The same power can be conveyed in the three words sentence "I love you," lest you take me for a simple vulgarian.)   Bad words?  Grow up.  There's no such thing.  The harshest words don't cause a nanofraction of the harm of the kindest bullets.

I'd make a witty comment, but I haven't the words;)
Definitely not a simple vulgarian, but maybe a complex one?
Beautiful. And, just this afternoon, I was drafting a blog post about the power of words. I like what you have written and share your respect for their power. Thank you for yours.
