This morning as I was walking in to work I saw a dog wearing a pirate costume. Halloween is still a little ways off, but even if it was Halloween I'm not a big fan of dressing up your pets for the occasion. When I got in and told my coworker about it, she got real excited about great dog costumes she had seen in the past, and we ended up spending a couple minutes googling and sharing dog costume pictures. "At least one of my friends seems to send me a dog costume email every year," she said. Well, friends, even though I'm not much of a dog costume fan, these dog costumes are pretty awesome.

Yoda dogs are by far the most popular costume. An image search for “yoda dog” will yield many happy returns.

But let’s not forget the other Star Wars characters!

Costumes with arms seem to be the thing these days. I’m I the only one unaware of this trend?

Yes, that's Indiana Jones. Yes, that's a whip.

This, apparently, is The Dog Whisperer, for those of you who have The National Geographic Channel. Those stuffed dogs are riding on his back.

While the first dog here could be seen as being eaten by a gator, the second dog eliminates the ambiguity. My favorite part about this costume is that the poor beagle probably hates dragging around that costume, and I imagine he periodically tries to chew it off, which only adds to the reaslism of it all.

And speaking of realism, check out those hooves!

Oh, don't act so surprised....
So you have your sexy nurse/vampire/whatever costume all ready for the big night, but what will your dog wear? Is there not a sexy costume for my dog? Have no fear, they have sexy dog costumes too:

Is that a suggestive pose? That’s just disturbing.

Homemade, but classy.

This is for when your dog turns thirteen and becomes a man in the eyes of God.

And lastly, the pirate costume that started it all.
Sorry I subjected you to all that, but according to one of the many dog costume websites out there on the World Wide Web: “Force your friends to look at photos of your dogs in costume. They really appreciate the time and effort you put into it and they can't think of anything they'd rather do than look at photos of your dog as you giggle hysterically over how funny they look.”
