On March 14th, 2009, Dorinda Fox put out an open call that rocked Open Salon to its core: the Open Salon Interviews. At the time there was one particular blogger who was garnering quite a bit of negative attention within the OS community, and the call for interviews was an attempt to inject some positivity into the scene. And boy did it ever. One month later there were over 85 interviews posted, and more kept rolling in. It was AWESOME.
The concept was simple: pick a writer on Open Salon and interview him/her. Talk about writing, talk about life, talk about sex, religion, money, politics: nothing was taboo! (Okay, mostly they were interviews about writing. Dorinda posted some excellent sample questions in her original post.) The interviews provided excellent insight into our little community of writers, but, since that fateful March of aught-nine, the face of Open Salon has changed quite a bit. Old, beloved writers have moved on or tapered off; new, equally-beloved writers have stepped in to fill the void. The time, my friends, is right.
Writers of Open Salon, your mission, should you chose to accept it: choose an Open Salon writer (or two! Or three!) to interview. Post the interview on your blog. Tag it “OS Interview.”
If you’re having frightening flashbacks to those hellish weeks before Homecoming and Prom, never fear! Unlike taking your sister to the big dance, it is perfectly acceptable to interview yourself. We tend to lean a bit to the left here, so go ahead practice self-love with immodest abandon! I would only place one restriction on the self-interview, though: before you interview yourself, you must first interview another member of Open Salon. You may be worried that no one will ask you for an interview, but so may the person you choose to interview. And funnier things have happened with Karma...
So that's the proposal. Anyone up for it?
Update:
Okay, so we're up for it, it sounds like. Good. Let's say we try to get these posted en masse on Wednesday, March 10th. That's a soft deadline. Don't let this get in the way of all the other great pieces you have in the pipeline, however! Keep that good writin' acomin'!!
Don't forget to spread the word: it's bad enough worrying if you'll get a date to prom, it's even worse if you see everyone dressed up and wonder where they're off to. This is an opportunity to showcase the breadth and depth of our community: the more, the merrier!

Thanks again Shaggy.
'Tis fun reading them and getting to know something more about our fellow OSer's.
P.S. I lived in Jamaica Plain for four years, on Centre Street...glad to know JP Licks is still in business!
hahahaha
I just went back and read my interview of Jodi and I laughed in spite of myself. Who knew that something so silly would inspire a years worth of dirty haiku? hahahaha
Rock it, people! Invite someone and go for a ride.
Thanks for suggesting this, shaggylocks.
Now, however, I can't wait to read the results.
Rated: By the official Kilgore Trout of OS.
Don't forget to spread the word; we don't want anyone to feel left out!
I can't wait.
~bump~
I didn't know about the Open Call for interviews. Thanks for the info.
I'll be sure to add your interview with Robin to the roll call.
:)
