Do you ever get a small hankering for the simple days of childhood when all you had to do was get a hold of some glue and a patient kindergarten teacher and your Christmas shopping was nearly done?
I want to take you back in time to that moment when you realized that you could make your Mom a gift and it was very likely she would be happy and kiss you for it. Happy Christmas Dave Rickert.
KINDERgARTEN CHRIsTMAS
I got my glue out. The paste tastes better
but the macaroni won't stick
that is the object the teacher said
"Do not eat the macaroni!"
Why?
"We are going to spray it GOLD!"
Now that is wonderful I said
Gold is such a cool color,
hot pink is nice
but Gold goes
better with
Christmas
I put the macaroni carefully
against the glass, pickle, salad, dressing, container
it was washed out real good
then I put the glue on,
wait no, it was the glue on the macaroni
after we turned it gold
then glue on the glass
Some kids took their paste out and ate it
Anyway.
Mrs. Plump
was not happy
that's nothing
I saw a kid eat some of the gold macaroni.
One time I even saw a kid bring a raw potato for snack
Yup.
Anyway, we decorated the empty pickle salad dressing jars,
Mine was a wishbone one
then the teacher assistant put
the Mr. Bubbles in
or was it Calgon?
Anyway, she said our MOTHERS
would like it
She began to sweat
It was time to put the lids on
we were missing one or two
I think some kids put their glue in
Oh well
Out came the ribbon
and all was well.
We got to wrap them too.
We put newsprint with stamped pictures all around.
In the end
It was kind of nice
at least my Mom thought so.
Gold is her color.

Rwoo5g: You are right. Someone asked me recently what a good baby gift would be for a new mother....I told them a handmade baby blanket. Why? My sister made one each for my twins 20 years ago. They were in some neutral colors, big enough for the crib, pram, carseat, etc. We are still using them as lap throws in the living room!
