Macaroni Decorated Bath Salt Pickle Jars For Mom

Rate: 13 Flag

Do you ever get a small hankering for the simple days of childhood when all you had to do was get a hold of some glue and a patient kindergarten teacher and your Christmas shopping was nearly done?

I want to take you back in time to that moment when you realized that you could make your Mom a gift and it was very likely she would be happy and kiss you for it. Happy Christmas Dave Rickert.

KINDERgARTEN CHRIsTMAS

I got my glue out. The paste tastes better

but the macaroni won't stick

that is the object the teacher said

"Do not eat the macaroni!"

Why?

"We are going to spray it GOLD!"

Now that is wonderful I said

Gold is such a cool color,

hot pink is nice

but Gold goes

better with

Christmas

I put the macaroni carefully

against the glass, pickle, salad, dressing, container

it was washed out real good

then I put the glue on,

wait no, it was the glue on the macaroni

after we turned it gold

then glue on the glass

Some kids took their paste out and ate it

Anyway.

Mrs. Plump

was not happy

that's nothing

I saw a kid eat some of the gold macaroni.

One time I even saw a kid bring a raw potato for snack

Yup.

Anyway, we decorated the empty pickle salad dressing jars,

Mine was a wishbone one

then the teacher assistant put

the Mr. Bubbles in

or was it Calgon?

Anyway, she said our MOTHERS

would like it

She began to sweat

It was time to put the lids on

we were missing one or two

I think some kids put their glue in

Oh well

Out came the ribbon

and all was well.

We got to wrap them too.

We put newsprint with stamped pictures all around.

In the end

It was kind of nice

at least my Mom thought so.

Gold is her color.

Linda: I had started writing something about this the other day and Dave wanted a poem, so I just put this together....it did make me smile.
This is simply wonderful! Have a great Christmas. r
Dave: Thank you! Hope your day is wonderful!
this made me smile. thanks sheila
Caroline: Thanks, and a Happy Christmas to you!
When I was still teaching high school, I planned little projects like decoupage and dough ornaments for my students to make and take home to their parents. Some of the older kids don't have money for Christmas and they were grateful to have something to give.
How clever and creative, Sheila. You sure made me smile. Thanks.
Mary: Thank you for stopping by, may the joy of the season envelope you, and the letter of you send love to everyone you meet! A person who helps children, even give a gift, is someone who is shaping the world.

Belinda: I am so glad you smiled. I always enjoyed doing things with kids, my own and others too.
Wonderful poem, it felt like a lot of love went into the gift.

Romantic: Thank you, I remembered some of the wonder I felt that you could actually make a gift for mom and it was crafty and artistic and was so cool.....
Thanks for the suggestion.
All my friends and family are getting these for Christmas!

Steve: You doll, alternate the gold with turquoise, silver and then a little red and green on some too, variety is good!
This is wonderful! Oh my. I should have used gold macaroni with my class this year...~r
Creativity is the best gift. You give more of "yourself" than from an easily purchased, corporate-produced, commercialized gift. It has inherently more meaning and labor value (hence more true value) than a mass-produced materialistic item.

Joan: Kids love to make stuff and when you tell them it is beautiful and they have confidence, their world is on the right path. I used to do a lot of creative stuff for kids in an art appreciation series. They still remember it after all these years.

Rwoo5g: You are right. Someone asked me recently what a good baby gift would be for a new mother....I told them a handmade baby blanket. Why? My sister made one each for my twins 20 years ago. They were in some neutral colors, big enough for the crib, pram, carseat, etc. We are still using them as lap throws in the living room!
Whats this "use" to stuff, I still do!! Making stuff out of macaroni is fun!! ~nodding~ :D
Tink: Awesome, you ship Fed Ex or UPS??HAHAHAHAHA
This was so cool. I could just see you putting it together!
scanner: Thank you, it brought back some long dormant memories....
I still keep all that stuff my kids made for me at school. Did you know that mice don't mind if the macaroni is painted gold. They like plain or sprayed.
R for the memories
Cleo: Funny and good to know!!!
Oh so many good memories about macaroni art!! thank you!!!
Zanelle: I also remembered the whole sea shell thing today too....the kind you got at the souvenir stores as a kid and I used to glue those on everything too....when I was a kid.
