Spring Awakes in Salzburg Austria

Rate: 16 Flag

My son, a classmate and his brother visiting from the states took a trip in late March to Salzburg, Austria, Munich and Gudensburg Germany, as part of their seven week break.

This where you pick up a carriage ride. In 2001 we took the kids on one because it was raining in the city that day. They had lots of fun. The Fiaker, as they are called can be expensive, some people negotiate the price. Under the arches at that same visit, we had a street artist do a sketch of our children, which is fantastic.

Sheila: This was beautiful. I kept banging on the rating button but if it did not take let me know.
I would love to sit down with you and look at pictures sometime.
I don;t see much Spring yet in the photos but the architecture makes me yearn... Salzburg and Brussels are calling me!
Beautiful photos - captions would have been good, Sheila.

Nice to be on the spring tour today -- Belgium and Austria, not too bad for a slow Monday.

When were these taken?
Linda: This post, somehow posted itself when I was still working on it. No one was more surprised than me. That is probably why it was not registering the rate or something. Sorry for the confusion.

Gabby: Yes, things were just starting to bloom. It has been raining there a lot since, so I imagine there are many beautiful spring flowers now.

Fusun: Yes, I was working on the captions when it self published. I had it open and was editing it and somehow you were all able to see the original piece. Makes no sense to me. However, hope you came back and checked it out after the captions were published.

Lea: Yes, these were taken in March of this year. I started working on this over the weekend, then got sidetracked, and somehow this morning while I was open and editing this, it was still possible for people to comment. Very strange.....
I just banged on your rating buttoin again 17 times.
This slowness is so maddening when you have a beautiful post like this
Linda: OS is crazy, I think you might have had a rating up there and now it is gone again. I have one page open with 4 on it and this page with 3. Go figure!!!
Wow, beautiful pictures!
Hayley: Thanks for stopping!
I came back to enjoy these pictures again - and found captions. Wish I could rate again. Thank you, Sheila! Such lovely scenes. . .
I keep telling you your son is so lucky.
Don't I wish I were able to visit Europe.
Thank you for posting this.
Vanessa: Glad you could stop by. I have so many memories of Salzburg. I might go dig up some more pictures and do another post, hahahahah!!!!
These are such dreamy pix and a lovely sigh of a post...thanks! Vicarious thrills for moi! r
beautiful :) Thanks for showing us so much of Germany. I love these posts.
....and Austria, you know what I mean! :D
Muse: Thanks, I was wishing I was there myself. I miss Salzburg for a number of reasons!!

Julie: Thanks for stopping by. I have more to show, so I will try and do some more this week. I like to just look at the picture blogs sometime!!!
thanks for the tour. i had to look up Festung: fortress / the Salzberg castle!
German architecture is some of the most beautiful in the world. I love how they make everything so neat, like it grew where it was built. Great Pics!
Salzburg has been on my go-to list for a long time. Thanks for this beautiful reminder.
Maria: Oh, I thought about attaching more information to this, but then I seemed to have run out of time, it was kind of self posting and so I was rushing it then. There was some kind of glitch yesterday. Glad you looked it up! I have written about the Festung before in the Grossglockner series too. Thanks for coming along.

scanner: I have thought the same thing. I actually know the Mirabell Gardens pretty well, the last time I was there our hotel was right behind it, you cut through a wooded area and you were right there. The thing is all of that was manicured and perfect and everyone just passed through it on their way to the next place....so pretty.

Monsieur Chariot: Yes, visit. Salzburg has been referred to as being the Baroque jewel of Europe. I think that people appreciate all the history and buildings, the thing is the movie, The Sound of Music also made it more famous. There is so much to see there, it would easily be a destination on its own. You can fly into Zurich and take a smaller plane to the Salzburg Airport. We actually did that, you fly right in the Alps that way, it is wonderful!!!
The sort-of sepia effect on many of these photos is great.

I'm a sucker for travel photos...
Myriad: The different tones, were mostly accident I think, all picures were taken on the same day. I am really enjoying their travel pictures too!!!!
Very nice photos. Thanks for the visit. R
I LOVE Salzburg. I've been there several times. Winter and summer, what a beautiful place. Thanks for the beautiful photos.
Elizabeth: How awesome! I lived there in 1976, and have visited a few times since. Always thought it was an especially lovely place.
Thank yous to your son!! These are great to see....and yes, I'm such a Sound of Music fan I want to see Maria skipping through the shots, singing...I know, I'm such an American... : )
Thanks for a refreshing vicarious vacation in scenic places.
