Well, its that time of year again. We honor our mothers, we have proms, graduations, and various rites of passage associated with spring.
In our family that means birthdays. Our twin sons were born on Mother's Day, 21 years ago. This was the first year our family was not all together on Mother's Day and the first year our sons have been apart.
While one has been studying here in Milwaukee, the other has been studying in Lubeck Germany. So last Saturday, with our daughter back from her first year of college, we celebrated a bit early our son's first birthday by himself, absent his twin. The cake said Happy Birthday, but this time with only one name, not two. All year long, we have played 'family of three', with this son whose school is so close by. Now with our daughter who has returned from Florida for the summer we played, 'family of four'.
The little birthday party was fun.We drank some German beer, a couple different kinds. I roasted some beef, all day, it kind of melted in our mouths. We drank to his twin and sang Happy Birthday in English and German, just for fun.
In a few days we will play 'family of three' again. This time in Germany.

Well, I will be traveling for a time, so mostly likely not checking in on OS. I look forward to sharing our visit with the other birthday boy soon!
