The reality is that some of the people out there avoid reality. Marriage and family is a huge commitment and is not for everyone. I look back to the days when seemingly everyone was getting married and they all skipped off into happy land.
Folks, there is no such place. It is a lot of work. Even with the right guy, there is no sleeping on the tag team, you have to be ready to catch the pass.
I am sitting in air conditioned comfort. I did a little wash today and some housework, but most of the time I have the luxury of doing my own thing. Unless someone asks me for help with something, like their non profit, etc. I don't make it a practice lately to dig up work. If your non profit needs fund development help, well, you can pm me...
So I noticed that the martini glasses were all crazy dusty, on the upper shelf of the cabinet. I got those years before, and never really got into the habit of using them, as it was shortly after that I was diagnosed with an illness which requires me to skip the alcohol. They were a gift from my husband.
Along with that gift was a book of how to make some cool drinks. Cosmopolitans were very popular back then, thanks to the women on Sex and the City, I think.
So I took those glasses out and washed them by hand today. I thought of how I know Cynthia Nixon through her support of choice. I also thought of how my husband loves a good dirty martini.
So I washed them. I will be chilling the gin and even though I don't get to have one, I am going to make him one. I might even dig out an apron to put on to serve it.
Just the apron.
Not a flattering picture of me back then, (my meds needed adjustment), but Cynthia looks great.
Dirty Martini Receipe (for one) from Drinksmixer.com
2 oz gin
2. Fill a mixer with all ingredients including garnish. Cover and shake hard 3 - 4 times.
3. Remove cocktail glass from freezer, and empty. Strain contents of the mixer into the cocktail glass, include one of the olives, and serve with a mysterious smile.

I makes watching the shaking all that more enjoyable.

I love the shape of a martini glass. It just screams worldly sophistication (although I prefer a Cosmopolitan in it).
Fun post.
Christina: Thanks, those dirty martinis are great, especially blue cheese olives...occasionally I get the olives out of my husbands in a restaurant, just to taste!!
lschmoopie: Cynthia is a very nice person, she came and spoke at one of our political pac events where we usually have a celebrity. She, unlike many of them, did an outstanding speech, gave some great personal insight and was genuinely interested in all of us. I can generally spot the real deal, she is without a doubt, the real deal.
Thoth: Thanks for stopping!!! It was an adventure making it last night. My husband got such a surprised grin on his face, I knew I got him completely off guard! We had a lovely gin here too. Tanqueray.
Out on a limb: HAHAAHAHAH. For some reason, aprons are very popular these days in the discount stories even!!
Rita: He sincerely did! It set the mood for the whole night.
Brazen: Yes, you are absolutely right! Thanks for stopping!
Jeannette: I was tickled to do this yesterday. Usually I don't do much with alcohol because I cannot have it, but I was all James Bond in my head yesterday, smiling and laughing. I knew he would be so surprised!!!!! He even read this later and laughed and smiled. Thanks for reading!
greenheron: Ah, that is funny! If I threw everything out that was dusty here, hmmm, not much would be left!! I try to get to a little at a time!
I'm looking at my dirty martini glasses.......:-) / R

I wish I was the type to just throw on an apron...just the apron. Sons and varying friends of sons keep showing up without making an appointment!....our spontaneity at home has been squelched for ages : )
