Rate: 6 Flag

relaxing

Ah, it is now down to the final days of the boy's year abroad in Luebeck, Germany. Last weekend was spent enjoying life at the beach at Tavemunde. There is a Sail Week 2011 in progress there. A huge event, much like the Christkindl Markets with booths and food, the festivities don't end for a full week.  There are over 3000 sailors visitng with their boats and the activity is pure sailing pleasure and excitement.

Well, as you can see, times have changed and the beach beauties were out in full force.  People of all kinds flock to Tavemunde for this fantastic event, and it is not uncommen to meet people from all over. The weather has been a little chilly so some people were wearing their heavier coats, especially into the night, although, there were some topless sun bathers out earlier in the day.

 22nd  July – 31st July 2011/ Travemünde

It started as a bet for some bottles of Lübeck’s Rotspon wine in 1888. Since then Travemünde Week has developed to become one of the greatest sailing events worldwide. More than 3,000 sailors from 20 different nations take part in the sporting event in Travemünde. Organisers expect some 1,000 ships and boats of 35 different ship categories. Travemünde Week is organised by Lübeck Yacht Club (Lübeck Yacting Club LYC), Hamburg Sailing Club (HSC) and Norddeutscher Ragatta Verein (Regatta Association of Northern Germany). Last year nearly one million visitors came to Travemünde Beach Beach to enjoy both the maritime sailing event and a great side programme on land.

Ah to be young again and by the sea. To sleep well, to dream well, to live well all in a moment. I know he will remember these times the rest of his life and people has met will influence him for years to come.

My living abroad experience as a youth did the same for me. We are preparing for his homecoming which will take place very soon and I can tell  you, we are all looking forward to it, although there is no semi nude sunbathing on Crystal Lake. Unfortunately for him. HA!

Well watching these videos is one way to beat the heat, and while we have a break here today, with a lovely 88 degrees, it will be back up in the 115 heat index by Wednesday.

Germans do semi nude sun bathing with no qualms at Tavemunde. These postcards were sent to us by our son, purchased on earlier visits.

Enjoy!
You are so lucky you get to travel. I heard a report that said that my generation and the one that follows, will be so poor, we will have very few chances to travel.

I feel cheated and angry. My government has let me down.
Hey, wait, that lady...she doesn't....OOOOOH LAAAA LAAAA!! :D
Rwoo5g: I was in Tavemunde in May, for the 200th Anniversary of the Passat. I was not here for this week. My son is there now but will soon be returning. Yes, it has been harder to travel since all the restrictions and devaluations of our money, since 9/11 especially. In the old days, when I was in school, it was so much simpler and less expensive.

Tink: ! Glad you enjoyed this !!
Those videos were great. What a time they must have. The girls, OK, I guess!:-)
Scanner: Yes, they did meet some girls too, turns out one was a model. I guess they had a good time!!!
So many experiences! What a lucky guy -- and you too. I love the "bum" postcard. Yes, times have changed!
Bellwether: Ah times have changed, and I am reminded of how fleeting youth truly is! He will be home soon and I think he will miss it all very much, just as he missed being here. He will then be between both worlds in a way, and that can have an interesting effect.
I bet you cannot wait to have him home.
loved this
HUGGGGGGGGGGGGG
Linda: I am so excited! It is going to be so wonderful to all be together again!
Wishing you a very happy reunion, Sheila, and thanks for sharing all you have through the year.

Fusun: Thanks for visiting. I am amazed at how much more there has been to tell that I have not gotten around too, maybe more posts in the future!
