Dear Walker Voters of Wisconsin,
Well, what a mess. I doubt you’ll care, but I haven’t felt this bad since George W. Bush got his second presidential term. June 5th was the state-wide equivalent of a snoot-full. Or maybe a state-wide game of Russian Roulette when none of the bullets were blanks. Gloat while you can, although there’s nothing so loathesome as a gloating Tea-publican. Soon though, you’ll come back to Earth. It may not be immediate, but you’ll come to realize that Scott Walker did indeed “divide and conquer” you. You got hosed, punked and screwed all at once, and you helped the very people you should have resisted. You knew Walker was a sneaky liar who campaigned as a moderate but governed as a rat-bastard, and you STILL let him keep his job. Which I’m guessing is more than he’ll do for a lot of you.
It really disgusts me to know billionaire Diane Hendricks, this horrible woman in the video who wants to eviscerate laws that protect employees and reduce the great and progressive state of Wisconsin to some Northern ‘right to work’ red state version of Mississippi, is happy with these election results. She’s not going to feel your pain. For a while, she’ll even profit by it. Until she realizes very few people in Wisconsin can afford to buy her products, anymore.
I find it equally revolting that Charles and David Koch, the billionaire bastard brothers pictured above who have made a killing, are also happy about this. Look at David Koch in particular on the right--have you ever seen a more smug expression on anybody? They probably won’t miss the millions of dollars they poured into your state to convince you that your neighbors, friends and relatives; your co-workers, your child’s teacher, are nothing more than dehumanized ‘union thugs.’ All for the awful sin of wanting to make a living, have enough to eat and wear, be able to heat their homes in winter, educate their children and save enough for a decent retirement. Which does not suit the Kochs at all. Little people having decent lives!—the horror, the horror! You turned your backs on them because you’ve been taught to resent them by the people who want to destroy the middle-class for their own short term and short-sighted gain. Not realizing that it’s going to be damned hard to continue making those obscene profits without a peaceful, prosperous nation and a strong middle class to prop them up.
So they set you against your neighbors and you bought their line. Instead of thinking “hey, wait a minute, we should be insisting WE get decent benefits in the private sector instead of trying to drag public employees down all while those at the top buy a third summer home with their obscene profits” you listened to strangers who definitely don’t have your interests at heart. So tell me, why do you think they should be exempt from paying their share in taxes to keep the nation that benefits everyone but them MOST of all, in good working order?
Walker fooled you twice, so shame on you all. I hope you contemplate your deep, blue-black remorse while you stand in the unemployment lines for hours, and feel the despair when the bank takes away the house your grandfather built a century ago even if you keep your job because your wages are no longer adequate to pay for it. I hope you feel it when you see your land and water polluted by Walker’s corporate buddies. Cheer up, maybe Walker and the Kochs and the the rest of the people who will plunder your state will hire you for security guards. When you take living wages, benefits and a decent life away from people who used to have them the ones who took them away will start worrying abougt their personal safety once people get angry enough. Not that I think violence is a good or hopeful sign for any state—America's peaceful and orderly transitions of power are a valuable, precious thing in a dangerous world. You opened the door to the eventual possibility of literal class warfare, yesterday. Hooray for you.
I hope you’ll feel buyer’s remorse most keenly when you finally feel so bad, you apologize to your neighbors and try to make amends, because you really owe them big time. They were the ones who tried to preserve what you have and make Wisconsin a good place to live, again. Perhaps you think the recall was a mistake. I don’t think it’s ever a mistake to stand up for yourself when someone else is blatantly stealing your rights in support of an ideology that robs the neediest to supply the greediest.
Those who signed that recall petition and campaigned for Tom Barrett are people, too. They were angry and alarmed at what they saw Walker doing so they stood up and DID something about it. They fought well and valiantly; they made those bastards work damn hard and spend millions to keep Scott Walker in office. They tried to keep your state from being bought out from under you all by monied interests who only care about your home state insofar as it lines their already deep pockets. A soulless plundering of your heritage and resources if there ever was one. You betrayed your friends, neighbors and fellow Wisconsinites by voting against your own interests, and theirs on Tuesday. You not only threw yourself down in front of the Koch’s stretch limousine, you dragged them into the street to get runover, too. So goddamn the lot of you! You richly deserve the lousy government you’re about to get.
When you finally realize you’ve been had, pick yourselves up off the street, dust yourselves off then turn your anger to constructive ends. Unite with your fellow Wisconsinites and get your state back. But it seems you’ll have to learn this particular lesson the hard way. Hopefully, it will stick all the better for it. For Wisconsin's sake, may your learning curve be short so that there will be something left worth saving when you finally wake up.
