This Week's Scariest Horror on DVD

Rate: 1 Flag

There are plenty of intriguing new DVD releases in the horror section this week. Two titles stand out as the best bets, especially for those of us who are terrified of tots.

Trick 'r Treat

What are the rules of Halloween? And what happens when people don't obey the rules?

The Children

What scares parents most? The thought of their kids getting sick. In this film the premise is extended to "kids getting sick and turning against their parents with deadly intent." Yikes.

TheChildren

Mom and dad, I advise you to stock up on candy and remember to keep the lights on all night. Good children... Very good children...

That kid's mask (is it a pumpkin?) scares me.

Robert Mulligan's The Other (based on Tom Tryon's even more frightening novel) was terrifying in 1972.
It's a horrifying mask, isn't it? That was one of the things that scared me about The Orphanage, as well.

Pet Sematary stays on my favorite list, not for cinematic weight but because the kids freak me out. I am also afraid of the children in the Korean horror films Phone and Acacia. I run away!
I suppose you'd run away, far far away, when you view a classic film "The Bad Seed."
pffftt. That's nothing.
I'll stick with Phone. That little girl is creepy. And the kid in Ju-on, the original HDTV version.
