On the road to POTUS; a journey in three parts (or so)

A week ago, a couple of friends and I headed to Ashland, Oregon for some good theatre and lots of laughs. Also on our agenda, was the hare-brained idea of doing a photojournalistic "poll" of political signage. Where were the Obama signs - in the city or the country? The McCain placards? We were on a quest! Get three crazy women together on a long trip through sparsely populated area and you have a recipe for hilarity (not to mention no place for a potty stop!).
Starting off from Lake Tahoe, we headed up through the Lassen National Forest to connect with I-5 which would take us into Oregon. We were incredibly well stocked with every manner of junk food which can legally be obtained. After all, who knew - we could have been stuck out in the middle of nowhere without access to a convenience store for, oh, 30 miles or so! Why take chances?? Monica, in the back seat, was in charge of doling it out (she hogged the m&ms, but that is another post).
Our first attempt to find a political bumper sticker was disturbing, to say the least!

Once on I-5, we were greeted by two of our favorite friends...Moo-dona, the official state cow of the State of Jefferson. Today, she was dressed in her finest ballerina costume!

In 1941, angry miners and loggers declared independence and wanted to secede from California and Oregon, forming a new state. The sentiment is still alive and well.

Just down the road apiece is Moo-dona's dragon friend, made from scrap metal. Mt. Shasta glimmers in the background.
As we entered the beautiful town of Ashland, Oregon, we were greeted by our first really interesting bit of political signage, right on the side of Interstate 5. We were so shocked, that we didn't get a photo on the first passing. So, the next day we drove about 10 miles up the highway to turn around and head back into town to get a shot.

Tomorrow: A visit to the Medford Obama Campaign office and a tour of the backroads of Southern Oregon...

I love the roadtrip! I look forward to seeing what happens next.
Great pictures and I looking forward to seeing more.
It looks cool there.
I don't mean hip & happenin', though it may be. I mean it's 87 degrees here in Jacksonville today. Oregon is sounding really good about now. We could have cows made of scrap metal, but they would melt.
(thumbified for being trippy! bwah!)
We got lucky with the weather, that's for sure. Fall is usually more dependable in that respect!
I wish I could be with you. Next time let me know and I'll fly out and see you.
Hope you saw a good play.
It seems like a great idea for all those voting for McCain to just skip a step and write in Sarah for president ;)
