Where I've been...

Rate: 6 Flag

The simple answer is, right here.  In Iraq.  At my desk, in my hooch, staring at the computer.  Yeah, I've been out on a couple of missions, nothing too exciting really.  Mostly I have been right here, trying to come up with another post for OS.  See, this was originally supposed to be my little outlet where I could ramble and chart my travels and activities here in Iraq.  So I put up my first post, and it got picked up by the editors, and all these people read it, and it was awesome.  I had some idea that that could happen, but I never thought it would happen.

I managed to get a few more EPs, and then I had a post that didn't get picked. That's when I realized that I was getting really invested in the popularity of what I was writing, and not just letting it flow.  I forgot that I am rather competitive sometimes.  Oops.  So I have been sitting here trying to figure out what to write and how to write it in such a way as to get picked again.  I have a good friend who's a "real" writer, she's published books and stuff, and she suggested to start again with the "little" stuff.  Then a work friend of mine suggested the same thing...

So here's the deal OS.  I'm going away for a little while.  Not permanently - just a break to get my head back on straight.  I'm going over to Tumblr for a bit to write about little stuff and try to work out my blogger's block so I can write about big stuff again.  Thanks for reading, it has been truly humbling to get so much feedback from people I have never met.  I look forward to coming back to you all with some new material!  If you want to come check me out, you're all welcome.

Cheers,

SFS

Wow, I've missed your posts. That's disappointing. I'm still rather new at all of this, and am not always sure where to find my "friends'" posts. I'll definitely be looking at your blog site to read what I've missed. Take care of yourself and know that I pray for the military every night.
Don't forget about OS and the big picture stuff while you're working on the little stuff. If you can find a comfortably paced pendulum swing between these two spaces, you'll be in good shape - in normal life or, I suppose, in war. Thinking of you constantly...
You seem to be naturally a good writer, and you have a compelling point of view that OS (and probably lots of blog sites) don't have. I hope you will write lots more and bring that perspective to us.

I'm sure it's not made any easier that you probably have to think hard - harder than most - about what to post and what not to post, for safety's sake. But I do hope you will continue.
I would rather have little stuff and know you are alive than any "big stuff" any day of the week.
