In my neighborhood, any occasion is FIREWORKS TIME! The neighborhood is a mix of people from just about every continent, but are the Asian's the ones blasting the fireworks? Nope. It's the Hispanics. (Forgive me if I'm not being politically correct -- I never know what the most acceptable terms are anymore.)
I wonder if the Hispanics realize that the Asians invented fireworks?
I wonder what the Asians think about the Hispanics' love of fireworks?
Could this be the commonality that transcends the cultures?
Probably most of the white folks who've been here for 50 years -- whose kids are now living in another state (or continent), are sitting in their living rooms bemoaning the noise and discussing the possibility of those crazy fireworks guys putting their eyes out.
Long as they don't burn down anybody's house, I think it's kinda cool that every now and then I hear the rumble of another blast and if I happen to be outside, I can see the gold dripping from the sky. Just wait till New Years' Eve.
I wonder if they know it's illegal. I wonder if anybody ever gets arrested on Christmas Eve night for setting off fireworks? That would really suck.
Totally not about anything I'm thinking, but after searching YouTube for "fireworks" came across a beautiful Elvis Costello vid for your viewing pleasure. (Dedicated to femme forte in honor of HER black and white fireworks post.)

I think fireworks on Christmas Eve would be great! Hard to get the good ones around here, plus it's like 23 degrees out right now so that does tend to put a damper on outdoor activity.
Enjoy the show!
Love this Elvis **********r
These aren't the kind of fireworks you see on tv at 4th of July -- they're backyard explosions, but they're pretty nonetheless.
Kellylark: Round Rock must be the most homogenized city on Earth. I live in more of a South Austin (like South 1st area) area of Houston.
Cindy: oh, there'll be gunshots too at some point. :)
Robin: I'm glad, Robin. Merry Merry!
Smithery: Fireworks in Texas is a pretty steady industry -- they sell them on the outskirts of the city limits (or county line) and then it's a cat and mouse game with the police to get them back home. Probably part of the charm.
O/E: Glad you enjoyed the Elvis -- now I've gotta go hear Lou Reed. Much merriment today.
Kyle: We dodged precipitation yesterday -- just terrible winds that made my sinuses swell up.
Merry Christmas skeletnwmn. You are a dear.
Cartouche: yes, but the blast is what they seem to prefer around here.
Steve: thanks for turning me on to Mr. Gould.
Frank: thank you dear man -- you too!
Sparking: sometimes rambling words come up with those jewels, don't they? thanks
Michael -- glad you liked the Elvis -- Merry xmas

Indoor Fireworks is one of my favorite songs.
Sad, lovely, deep...
Very cool, skel, and I love outdoor fireworks, too!
:-)
(I can't play the video right now, but will get back to it)
Love and hugs!
And, a couch/bed is available whenever you need it!
Lunchlady: We have fireworks even when there's a burn ban on -- really really stupid. Now THOSE people need to go to jail.
SPotted: Good old Elvis. glad you liked it.
O/M: Hope you & yours (you know who I mean) had a lovely Christmas. What're you doing New Years? Hope it involves PA.
Thoth: Thanks dude -- Happy New Years!
Harvey: you grew up in Appalachia, right?
Old New Lefty: the only automatic weapons around here have four tires. They do their own share of damage.
Mypsyche: I did, and I will!
WSFTC: Ah, rain sucks especially if you're in Canada -- from my perspective, if it's December and you're in Canada, it MUST be snowing.
JK: I'll be the first to admit it -- I know nothing of the Canadian pop culture (except for those crossovers like Alanis Morrisette). But I'm learning!
