"You know what I think needs to happen on Open Salon to make my experience richer and without frustration?"
"Do I care?"
"They need to make it possible for individuals to block certain annoying people."
"You mean kick them off the site?"
"No. No. I just want to personally filter out some people. Click "ignore" like on Facebook or something and then never have to see their face or writing again!"
"Are there a lot of people you want to avoid?"
"Not really. Just a couple. But they're often on the cover. There's a certain so-called physician who is always on the front cover..."
"Who is forcing you to click through?"
"No one. I just don't want to see the smug face and Fox News style headline. That's not why I come to Open Salon."
"Why do you then?"
"I don't know. I guess I feel like it's some community or family or something and then I get ignored. It's like a real family I guess!"
"Are you wallowing in your middle child anguish again?"
"Why can't I wallow a little bit? Anywho, in my family I'm able to ignore the random crazy person spouting off ill-informed views and starting fights. Why can't I here?"
"But you can. Don't click through."
"I don't, damn it! I don't understand why ANYONE does. But they do! I'd rather be ignorant of that fact."
"So you just want to be able to pretend that some people aren't being read?"
"A little."
"You know you're just going to start to see blank white spaces on the cover in place of those posts. Every day you see them you know what is going to be there."
"I don't know. Perhaps eventually the whole cover would be bare through my filtering of objectionable content providers."
"You could solve this now by bypassing the cover all together."
"Oh, go fuck off."

Walter, a "meta post" is one that considers the workings and experience of Open Salon itself. "Self-reflection" or "navel gazing" depending on which side you are on. And there are sides. Some people (including me) enjoy pondering the workings of this place, including its faults and what I think would improve it. Other people find this annoying and will tell the writer of said meta posts to just shut up about it already.
I have the front page most recent - favorites tab selected as my cover - didn't know Dr. A was even there until 3 weeks ago.
You're right, we need an ignore/block function here. Maybe some of us would come back if we knew we could write without being attacked by the crazies in comments.
