MY RECENT POSTS

These were a few of my favorite OSers

Kellylark wrote about some of her favorite Open Salon writers fading away.  Sometimes with--and sometimes without--explanation.

She mentioned Caveat Canem Croceum and Caruso Wegie in particular.  I miss them too. They were great.

I was very present in Open Salon in year one, and thes are some of my absolute favorites who have disappeared, suddenly or gradually.

  • DogWoman - a generous soul
  • Dan Conley - provided sharp political/social insights
  • Chris B - offered timely media/politics perspectives
  • Arlene Green - full of dry wit
  • haggismold - told us why buying gas means buying soccer teams
  • Madam Bitch - a hard-core, atheist feminist lawyer civil libertarian who started many of the first heated arguments (and hurt feelings) on Open Salon

    I miss them all.

I miss many of the people who continue to post on Open Salon on a regular basis.  I wish I had the time I used to to peruse all these great posts with social and political commentary, touching personal narratives, photos, fiction, and humor.  I know I'm missing a lot that is there right now.

I miss these same ones Derek. I remember hearing from a couple of OS friends whom MB reduced to tears. And at the other end of the spectrum, I'm not sure you could find a nicer person on or off of OS than DogWoman. Thanks for remembering them.
I miss the people who are here and now, but are never EP's.
I'm right there with you on all of those, although I didn't much know dogwoman. haggsimold was one of the best commenters the site has ever had. I would also add J.D. to your list, along with Michael Copperman (whose tales of teaching the underprivileged were superb!), and Matt Brandstein.

There are others whose work has not been seen for quite a while who I fear are gone. Both epriddy's and pretend_farmer's last posts were in August. Rob St. Amant and Susan Mitchell have posted only once since the end of September. I sincerely hope they come back.
Derek, I can think of many who have not been here in a while. A handful of them I have seen on Facebook, which I think of as a parallel universe to OS.
I am remiss in not including J.D.

As for Madam Bitch, she was one I never designated a Favorite. Although I shared many of her perspectives as an atheist, feminist, civil libertarian, she'd still get me quite angry sometimes. She'd personalize arguments and frequently mischaracterized others' writings. But she could provoke some interesting discussions and was well informed!
I don't know if Rob or Susan are "gone" or taking big breaks. But anything they post is a must-read. I hope both post again soon.
    Skeptic Turtle.
    Great to point.
    More to read.
    You share no trivia.
    Honu- means turtle.
    Akamai- that's clever.
    Mahalo- thank you.
    it's Hawaii. go. yea.
    Let's read in shirts.

Yes. You do wonder why people decide to go.
You sometimes feel like you want to go too?
I'd tease that it be great to watch a werewolf.

Ya ever wonder what it be (ecstatic) to go?
One day just think. Go to Moonlight Lane?
Buy a little hermitage and sit and howl too?

Yea. Soon it will be warm enough to sculpt.
After winter will come, June. Flower. Sun.
If it weren't for thee frigid cold seasons,
the frigid sense within, warmth, beauty,
    etc.,

    Spring splendor, magnificent sensation,
Spring wonders, none of this sensation,
    could ever be.

    O-watch home-made-porn-tape? NO!
Hi Skeptic Turtle! I too miss dogwoman! Also Havlin, Artsfish and Sciencechick! I miss you all!
Haggismold was a favorite of mine as well. . .I'm sure, there will be others. . .
Arlene, madame bitch, haggismold? wherefore art thou?!
I miss Dog Woman, too, and her sister, The Wood Elf. Also, I haven't seen Laurel, not Lauren around either. When I look at my OS coffee mug, there are so many familiar faces missing. I hope they're all well and happy.
At least when we see them on FB we know they are alive and kickin :-)

haggismold - yes, i great avatar and a great commenter. I don't remember that much about Madame Bitch. Didn't she take off to Europe?

OS has always been a time-consuming passtime! I find I do better when I know I have a few hours to while away here. I make a lot of "better late than never" comments and do not rely on PM if you need an answer right away fro me!
Thanks, Procopius and Skeptic. It's nice to be missed :)

I can't speak for Rob, but I have been put off by some of the nastiness and weirdness and deception and the like that erupt on the site regularly. I've got too little free time, and I like to use it for calming activities. But I check in from time to time and might even post again some day, especially since we have a new editor who is hopefully more interested in making this place work for everyone.

I miss a lot of good, talented folks who were here early on, too. Like others, I particularly miss DogWoman. She was good and good for this place.
    Good list! I miss Catamitebastard.
