Bio
I'm a consummate daydreamer, thus my blog's title. I love to connect with the earth, its inhabitants, and our Creator. I prefer solitude beneath the shade of an oak tree to the bustle of a city street. I have my opinions, but on most topics can respectfully agree to disagree — so you won't find adversity here. What you can find is poetry, reflections, bits and pieces of my world — and hopefully — some inspiration. Peace and Blessings...

A Story and the Storyteller

Today was Any Old Kind of Day. I took a Taxi to Old College Avenue and some Poor Damned Fool was lamenting about The Day They Closed the Factory Down.

He said, "My Old Lady hopped a Greyhound after having a Quiet Little Love Affair with the Pretzel Man. She said

Honoring Our Veterans (a rhupunt)

On this Veteran's Day, I would like to thank and honor those who have and are serving our nation by sharing a poem that I composed last year.

A special thank you to my friend Torman and many others. I salute you...

Woodland Serenade (villanelle)

on patchwork dreams, we fantasize.
Luna's cool blue shadows entrance,
waltzing 'neath star strewn summer skies.

resounding glacial streams' reprise;
dulcet ballads of happenstance,
on patchwork dreams, we fantasize.

twilight's lovelorn...from sleep, arise!
night owls flutter and whitetails prance,

November's Children

yellow-mapleleaf_resized

Time is like the wind
That comes in the morning
With a barely palpable caress of the cheek
Rising to a comfortable caress
In its measured passage of the day
Until it rises a sudden gale
Revealing the irrevocability of its power
Trembling our browning leaves
And blowing them to our finality.

I Don't Want to Share...

...this persistent cough with the estimated 25,000 people weaving a 5K ribbon of pink through the streets of downtown Des Moines today; but while my New Balance walkers stand empty somewhere in the dark recesses of my closet, my heart is there along with those whose lives have been touched in… Read full post »

Lust is in the Air

Long ago, elk and bison freely grazed the prairies of Iowa. Settlers arrived, bringing with them their guns and altering the landscape. By 1900, these creatures and many other species had disappeared from the region.Read full post »

Welcome to My Song

Bagpipes

The Irish gave the bagpipes to the Scots as a joke, but the Scots haven't got the joke yet. ~Oliver Herford

The word conformity had never appeared on her first-grade spelling lists and it would be a few more years before she was introduced to its definition. However, she learned quite/… Read full post »

A Saturday Morning Stroll

Copy of In Flight

The scent of rain still lingers in the air and there is no color in the eastern sky this morning—only a soft white haze attempting to penetrate the bleakness. Somehow, its reflection glows brighter in scattered puddles adorning the sidewalks. Lambent droplets cling to the deep red baubl… Read full post »

Growing Pains

This little prose exercise is a belated response to CarolinaBlue50's   recent six sentence challenge.  What can you say in six sentences?

My, how quickly they grow!!!

In kindergarten, wardrobe malfunctions and boo-boos are common occurrences and so I was well-prepared when I not… Read full post »

After the Storm — A Ray of Hope

Swing and Butterfly

"Things which matter most must never be at the mercy of things which matter least." ~Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

Lately it seems, there's been a pervasive cloud hovering just over my shoulder. I've been reluctant to admit it—even to myself; but it's been building in intensity… Read full post »

In Spite of Adversity

Recently a friend on another site, Alfred B., posted a challenge: to select an original text and gradually mold it into poetry. CarolinaBlue50 immediately rose to the challenge with his own creation in Anatomy of a Poem.

For my effort, I selected a passage from Maya Angelou's Wouldn't Take NothiRead full post »

Mending the Sacred Hoop

White Eagle Pow Wow

"And I saw that the sacred hoop of my people was one of many hoops that made one circle, wide as daylight and as starlight, and in the center grew one mighty flowering tree to shelter all the children of one father. And I saw that it was holy." -Read full post »
