I was slicing a banana today which plunged me into instant nostalgia. Unaccountably, this banana had more than a few seeds in the center, something that hasn't been seen for a long time. When I was growing up bananas had a lot of seeds, there was this dark stripe in the center of bananas, and we could actually strip the whole thing from the banana. Which reminds me....
I claim that the last 10 or so generations of people don't know what a hamburger is. When I was a boy we used to trek down to Bud's Creamry - everyone walked in those days - at least a mile from our house for a hamburger. Now, a hamburger in those days consisted of a patty, lettuce, tomato, onion, ketchup (and for me also mayonaise). That was a hamburger. Then McDonald's came along and fooled everybody into thinking a hamburger was a slab of meat between a bun.
This is a demonstration that we can lose a lot of knowledge between generations.
