Dick Cheney channelling Dr. Strangelove...

Rate: 29 Flag

...or Why I No Longer Fear the Bush Administration

Either Brian Williams or Tom Brokaw, I can't remember which, made an uncharacteristically brilliant observation yesterday. During the inauguration ceremonies, one of them said that Dick Cheney was looking a little like Dr. Strangelove. Wow, now that's some reporting. I think the unspoken comparison is more one of ideology than physical appearance.

I think the whole Bush govt. was Dr. Strangelovish, not to mention surreal.
Yikes!! Uncanny resemblance in so many ways.
No, Mr. Potter from It's a Wonderful Life.
It's as if they are the same man, in so many ways.
I thought he was a super villian from a Bond film. The cane looked especially dangerous.
When I saw him wheelin' down my first thought was George Wallace, the governor of Alabama who set loose the dogs. That same look of dispirited evil.
Simply put, he gives me the creeps.
I liked the War Room comment that Cheney was very "Big Lebowski-esqe" as well.
Hahahahaha Funny! The Daily Show spoke about the same thing last night and superimposed a white fluffy, cat in Cheney's lap. Seeing him in that wheel chair was such a metaphor was it not?
Dr. Strangelove is my favorite movie of all time!!!
I love the comparison. rated to infinity
I was thinking the same thing!
I laughed out loud when I heard the comparison. John Stewert's Bond villan analogy also very on point. I haven't seen the movie in years, but I'll be watching it this weekend.
This was laugh-out-loud funny. I can't believe I didn't make the connection -- it's one of my favourite movies.
The whole administration was a surreal version of Sterling Hayden's character in the movie.
hilarious. Photos say it all..
That's hilarious... And so fitting! Ya know, I'll bet there was a sword hidden inside that cane, too!

I agree with Emma Peel, the whole administration was Strangeloveesque. Heh, we're lucky to be alive after having that crew in charge for so long. Rated.
All I could think of when I saw Cheney in a wheelchair was Richard Widmark as Tommy Udo in Kiss of Death...all those steps at the Capitol.
Visually yes but Dr Strangelove is lot more sane than Cheney. I agree with the other comments that Cheney is lot more like the deranged General Jack D Ripper (Sterling Hayden).
Can you just hear Cheney, "...precious, bodily fluids..."
I wish I could remember the remark I made to Cindy when I saw him being wheeled out, damn those seniour moments. I elicited a laugh from her and I know it was quite pithy
Now all we need is watching GW ride a nuke down to the target.
I know that in his cranium, there's Slim Pickens.
That's a Southernism, hope not too obscure.
we'll meet again....don't know where, don't know when......
Dang.
By the way, there is an actual historical connection between Strangelove and Cheney. Strangelove was based, in part, on Albert Wohlstetter, a cold war policy analyst. He was a mentor to Wolfowitz and Richard Perle. His advice was put into action during the Ford admin. by Dick Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld.....or as we say now...Rumsfailed.
Small world (war)
I get the impression that D.Cheney is not at all popular in your
country.
Brilliant headline,I have Emaile d this to my Australian friends.
We need a laugh.
A friend of mine summed it up for me re: the Cheney
wheelchair photo "It's emblematic of the Bush/Cheney
Administration=BROKEN
I LOVE this. Must have been Brian.
Hard for me to feel any sympathy for Dick Cheney. I heard he might be opening up a Waterboard shop down the Jersey Shore this summer.
Personally, I think he needs a Mini Me.
Tough? A "little like Dr. Strangelove" ...?... That was Great. I mumbled: `rough.
The Rottweiler gets wheeled off to the kennel? A teething pup?
And for sure, the surly critter is a hyena, a mange jackal? Howl!
Oh, bloodhound `Farewell. Good bye. Go drool at Mt. Misery!
When I saw him, all I could think of was OS and how we could use the "Tippem" feature......
Dr. Strangelove probably had a conscience.
That is a nice picture. How I stopped worrying, and came to love the Bush Administration.
"General Jack D. Ripper: He said war was too important to be left to the generals. When he said that, 50 years ago, he might have been right. But today, war is too important to be left to politicians. They have neither the time, the training, nor the inclination for strategic thought. I can no longer sit back and allow Communist infiltration, Communist indoctrination, Communist subversion and the international Communist conspiracy to sap and impurify all of our precious bodily fluids."
I had EXACTLY THE SAME THOUGHT! I started laughing hysterically when I saw this, completely derailing the phone conversation I was having...
Hey, you stole my line!
That's ok. I can't embed images as well as you anyway.
It will be interesting to see whether such comments as Brokaw's/ Williams' continue......The corporate-controlled media is already bashing Obama...
