I understand that Open Salon is committed to the First Amendment, and I believe that this is what they need to do. Open, as Larry pointed out in his latest blog, is about everyone. But where two or more are gathered, it is a community, and I believe Open also means acceptance, and that Salon has the connotation of a civil room of discourse. Hence, I give you the words, and you know the music, of the great Rogers and Hammerstein, written during WWII, I trust it will ring true for all of you, and help to keep our discourse civil and open.
You've got to be taught
To hate and fear
You've got to be taught
From year to Year
It's got to be drummed
in your dear little ear
You've got to be carefully taught
You've got to be taught
To be Afraid
Of people whose eyes
are oddly made
And people whose skin
Is a different shade
You've got to be carefully taught
You've got to be taught
Before it's too late
Before you are 6 or 7 or 8
To hate all the people
your relatives hate
You've got to be carefully taught
Let us put away childish things, what ever toxins were carefully drummed into us, let us keep them out of this world of OS so that all may thrive, grow and learn to care about this great world of diversity and strength.

" we've been given the "green light". No censoring here at all."- Greg Thomas
As unsettling as the drama may be, this site appears to have a biblical precedent.
Commitment to the first amendment is more important to than the feelings and sensibilities or people that are thin skinned. I don't remember any complaints when all of the Bush bashing occurred. In fact I very much enjoyed bashing Bush calling him everything to an idiot to calling Republicans the American Taliban.
I would tell you to quit whining, but I believe whining is your right.
To Kalvin,
Stop being melodramatic, no one is a threat to you or your family. Also you have no grounds for legal action.
To Greg,
I thought you were more intelligent than this. The guy is baiting you and you jump at it. Just ignore the guy.
I did not fall off the turnip truck yesterday.
Thanks,
Greg
C'mon guys, what the hell?!!
i can just see his brother in law at the fbi shaking his head wishing this doofus hadn't married his sister. i just imagine - if she knew - what she thinks of her hubby's postal comments.
no worries on this end.
greg thomas is no more a concern for me than the skid marks i'm washing off my cat's ass.
it's just amusing me for the evening since there's nothing good on tv."
Just when I thought you couldn't get any worse . . shit, give up on it already.
