Snowden

Snowden
Birthday
April 01
Bio
fictional dead crewman, real under employed professional photographer, researcher, trader, activist, and self-defined generalist. Current job title: Sherpa on left coast expedition. I can remember having no choice at all. I did what I was told. Without question. I can remember shutting down and staying shut down. And then I can remember the simple acts of kindness that brought me around. I remember losing the fear, and standing up on my own. The fear comes and goes - but the birds and flowers that I see now join love and kindness to keep me breathing and calm enough to hear my heart beating. I know now know that I could have always chosen to hear myself breathe and my heart beat - and that would get me to the home i never dared to imagine. Where I am.

Occupy 'merika: Still Here

Rate: 3 Flag

Activism - or standing up for something other than what Fox news and MSM  Corpgov sources put in our trough - will continue here at the same slow pace that is has for decades before OWS or OS permitted us to shamelessly force politically incorrect and outdated ideas like freedom, justice and health care for all  into venues that may or may not be receptive to them.

OS mirrors 'merika in too many ways. We have egos and assholes shaping our culture.  We click our way into our comfort zones.

As OS interest in OWS waned, this pop run activist shop (mom has never been onboard)  and lover of  lost causes, jumped on board. I gave the kids high marks for energy, and low marks for message - and then I shoved my  stuff in there...into that void: Freedom, Justice, and Health Care for all.

I asked first "Who is Wall Street?"  but I know we are Wall Street.  Wall Street is 'merika.  And I still Occupy 'merika.  A place that was never just, free, that never took care of its poor, elderly, or ill, but could always  convince itself it was great none the less, and every generation of  kids was taught this lie, and then had to learn that the truth was that America was a lie, and 'merika was the truth.  I think that those kids, and the thousands of  sick, homeless, and poor people who made up most of the Occupy phenom were telling this story . Wall Street is 'merika. And it looks a lot like OS.

So activists activise. Protestors protest, and 'merikans just keep on click, click, clicking. OS enables me to see all this - egos and assholes - as they post and comment.

So  I have sullied my Snowden brand by attaching it to a leaderless  movement that had no clear agenda. I have embarassed my OS readers , and lost cachet.  They now join my family, wives, children, former friends, former employers, professors, classmates,  government agencies, politicians,  taverns, diners, and the Episcocal church - who have been embarassed for or by me in the past.

Well I think you are an intelligent voice in the universe and I am glad you continue to write on OS.
Damn right, still here. Snowden, there is no there "out there" to where you point, at least honorable and spiritual there! We are all 99%ers, well, all but the 1%ers that are in no way in our orbit. How many of us are active and reality-based? Truly. A shameful few. Shoring up betrayer Obama and claiming progressivism is where the shame should be placed. He demands no accountability and so many of his betrayed followers demand no accountability from him. Congress is at 10% but not Barack? Why???? Democracy is not a spectator sport. America still doesn't get it. And the corporate media does all it can to make sure it doesn't. And too many on open salon reflect a lot of American lethargy and myopia and destructive mindless cronyism, too many within it, but there are strong voices in here and out there, too. [r] libby
The Occupy movement, like many grass roots movements have a "leaderless" mentality for a reason: they wish to not appoint a leader. It's funny that the movements that have made a difference have had leaders. I grieve for what has happened, but I am sure it will make the history books. It was a wake up call for everyone, even here in Africa. I think the violence in Oakland had a lot to do with its demise. That and it cold... Blessings, Snowden. You are a voice to be reckoned with.
You and Billy Blake, Snowden. You're in good company.

Occupy Enschede was a non-starter. We've got healthcare for all here, and frankly, nobody on mainland Europe is mad enough yet, except maybe in Spain.

From where I'm sitting, looks like OWS isn't dead but evolving. A movement might not need one voice to lead it, but they do need to agree on the message. Keep doing what you do.
