I am not a Lefty (ok I do write with my left hand but I swing a scythe with my right -yet I can carry water with either hand) but I know one when I see one. We got a lot of people who are confused about right and left these days- and I for one do not think it is an accident.
I cannot say I really miss the Left because I almost have forgotten who they were . Perhaps that is because they never really existed - mabe they were just the imaginary creation of a corpgov propaganda campaign. Oh - I am sure there were a few Left leaning folks on picket lines and in protest marches but they never really were all that were they? - I mean who misses them ?
If we had not shipped entire industries to places where corpgov can control wages and regulations we might have a bit of a Left, left. I was never in a union but scrubbed toilets in a union shop for a few months. That shop is long gone - the store there now is non- union.
I have a hard time thinking of our union workers here as being Left. They fight hard for themselves and do pretty well, but I saw them vote for Ronald Reagan...they lost me there. And when I looked for that pre-Reagan Left it was gone all together. Perhaps they were all in the air during that Air Traffic Controller's strike....
If we had a Left they would have shut down the whole country in support of the terminated ATCs. If we had a Left they would have shut down the entire nation after the 2000 selection of the neocon canidate. Shit, they would have shut down the entire nation to protest mass incarceration and selective enforcment of moral laws long before that even.
Do you think that we would have invaded Iraq if we had a Left ? Re-elected Bush? Droned Pakistan?
I read Dowd's bit yesterday warning us that Mitt and Adolf represented the return of the neocons. Maureen...honey, they never left. These guys are just allowing the right to continue to pass as center...and I aint buying it.
The truth is lost in the noise - the Left died before 1968 but was buried with Martin and Robert in that year. We have no Left, I watched it disappear.
