Marwood Brut
Happy Champangne Friday! Today’s, champagne is an affordable bubbly from Italy. Priced between $10 and $15 a bottle it’s a nice bring-along to a dinner party. I acquired it from a family friend who doesn’t drink and had a stash of various wines on her wine rack. (Why she even has a wine rack eludes me.)
First Pour
The color caught my eye because it’s kinda, well, a drab yellow. Like pee-in-the-snow-yellow. Not a real appetizing description, I know, but it's what I see!
First Sniff
Despite its “brut” label, I thought for sure this was going to be a sweeter sparkling wine. My first whiff brought visions of sweet green grapes to my head, maybe with a hint of melon.
First Sip
But clearly my nose has much wine-sniffing training to complete because sweet isn’t the taste that hit my tongue. I might have gotten the “green” part right, though green apples were more like it. It’s definitely crispy and goes down clean, but the after-taste was a little muddled for me and it hung around longer than I’d like.
Impressions
It’s not dry enough for me, but this bubbly would go nicely with a fruit platter or fruity dessert and possibly some smoked-type cheeses, such as Gouda. It would also make a super-great mimosa.
It sounds like I don’t really like this champagne, but I actually do and would drink it again.
Give it a try. Cheers!
