I thought if I could get inside the music,
a secret door might open,
that the core of my apple would begin to
tour the universe
as an icon of celestial harmony,
a contrapuntal figure made from pure
singing mathematical light.
Later, when I looked,
there were weevil holes,
there were excoriations
where nails had prised open notes
only to find the hum of space,
the abandoned caves of star-men.
I let myself be carried over undulations
as a young girl might,
seduced on the long spine of a silk dragon.
As I lay listening
the music slid between my bones
like an orchid's tongue.
I heard a dog barking in a kettle,
a crazy grace...
jolts of electricity
placed on my testicles
and on the hairs of my ears.
