Thailand - Is There A Way Forward?

So the Thai prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva has declared a state of emergency in Thailand. Is it me or is Thailand fast becoming a joke?.  I mean seriously, They can't seem to get a government stable for more than 18 months..It's a joke..And I thought us in the UK were bad!.

This state of emergency that the prime minister has put in place allows protesters of more than 5 people to be broken up..What good is that going to do?..Probably not alot.

I'm actually half Thai from my mums side and even I must say that I am  embarrassed by this whole thing in Thailand.  I mean, Lets face it, Pretty much any politician is bent...Its the meaning of Politics for god sake!

Protest after protest, Problems with internal things in Thailand, Thai Airways going backwards are just examples of the problem the country is going through at the moment.  I could make a list as long as my arms.  I've always believed that the only way is up for Thailand...It's kinda hard to see how they can pick themselves up.

Protesting

Protesters Thailand

This is really starting to annoy me.  I like to read news quite often as I like to know what is going off in the World...Funny enough Thailand gets a mention atleast once a week now.

Protesters are there because they do not believe in the current government...These protesters are pro Thaksin..The same prime minister that was axed in a coup.   This prime minister bought land at a cheap price and  basically conned the country out of the value of it.  This said land now has an airport built over it.

What I don't get is that there is a way about protesting about things...Obviously Thai's don't know that yet it appears.   Why storm the building?..I mean seriously...By the time they got passed the gate the PM would have been off and out of there!.

Protesters said it was supposed to be peaceful...How is storming into a building peaceful?

What's Happening To The Country

Well for a start, Tourism is down...That's not helped by the fact that its more expensive to have a holiday in Thailand than it is in Hong Kong.

  • Thai Airways are charging more for flights to Thailand
  • Currency exchange value is poor to the £
  • Tourism is down
  • Some governments advising not to travel to Thailand
  • Complete meltdown of the country in terms of who is running it.

The above is just to name a few!!!

The country needs someone to stay in office long enough to tackle the problems the country is having so that they can move forward...The country does not need change every 2 years!..If just some of the above could be sorted, It would help the country to no end.

Too Soft

Maybe i'm just being harsh here, But If I was the PM, I would have declared marshal law and shoot on site if they went past the gates of the PM building.

I mean how exactly can it be a peaceful if your trying to get access to a restricted site?

An example needs to be shown in some form.

Can't Be Proud Of Being Half Thai!

I honestly can't...Not with all this crap going off..Makes me look like I share a braincell with them!.

C'mon Thailand, Get your act together, Group together and tackle the problems together as one unit..Stop being a laughing stock!

your personal connection to thailand legitimizes your interest, but it should also mean you are informed about the history leading to the current situation.

in my view, there is little to be gained from complaining about some situation, if you can not offer a means to affect it. i presume neither you nor your family are players in thai political society.

neither are you able to affect american society, most likely. so you can't direct american state intervention, or even persuasion. so ask yourself, what is your goal in even bringing this matter up?

i believe most humans have the ability to participate in the direction of their society, if there are formal means to do so. this is ordinarily 'citizen initiative,' which many american states have, but not the federal government. with out 'ci,' discussion is just gossip.
Hi al loomis.

My family isn't in the political area in Thailand..But saying that..Would you want to be at the moment?.

I want to bring the matter up because being half Thai and seeing daft events such as what is going off is pathetic.

Most people can have a say on what goes off...Whether they can affect it, Is another thing all together...But the big thing here is that the people of Thailand, Can change things....But they are impatient...It's like a football manager..Supporters want to see immediate results and if they don't he is sacked.
