Foreboding

It started like a hairline crack
Invisible to the unsuspecting eye
The outer wall was uniformly grey
Behind it eons pressing down in clay
Underneath a river bigger than the Misssissippi
And unstoppable as time

One day a line along the wall was seen to cry
The tears behind could bring the structure down
A thousand workmen tried to fill it in, but time
Held its heavy shoulder hard against the wall
The churning river filled itself with silt
The days went by. The the people felt secure.

But pressure overshadows all the town.
Some perceptions are like that. They slip in
Like a slit of light into the bumbling dark
And teeming marketplace of thought
That no one has the time to straighten out.
So as the river presses on we grope our way.

Read it twice and will read it again in a second. This says it really speaks to me on the inside.
Greetings, Patrick, thanks for letting me know!
