Is This Love – Open Call for Love Songs

Rate: 2 Flag

Sometimes, what makes a love song great is its pure simplicity.  Bob Marley captured such a moment with, “Is this love”.  He passionately croons that his only wish is to give of himself and share his meager living space with the object of his desire.

This tune takes me back to a much simpler time as a starving college student.  It was then that I met the love of my life and wished for nothing more than to care for her and have her in my world.  Although life has become infinitely more complicated, the one constant has been our undying love for each other.

I wanna love you and treat you right;
I wanna love you every day and every night:
Well be together with a roof right over our heads;
Well share the shelter of my single bed;
Well share the same room, yeah! - for jah provide the bread.
Is this love - is this love - is this love -
Is this love that Im feelin?
Is this love - is this love - is this love -
Is this love that Im feelin?
I wanna know - wanna know - wanna know now!
I got to know - got to know - got to know now!

I-i-i-i-i-i-i-i-i - Im willing and able,
So I throw my cards on your table!
I wanna love you - I wanna love and treat - love and treat you right;
I wanna love you every day and every night:
Well be together, yeah! - with a roof right over our heads;
Well share the shelter, yeah, oh now! - of my single bed;
Well share the same room, yeah! - for jah provide the bread.

Is this love - is this love - is this love -
Is this love that Im feelin?
Is this love - is this love - is this love -
Is this love that Im feelin?
Wo-o-o-oah! oh yes, I know; yes, I know - yes, I know now!
Yes, I know; yes, I know - yes, I know now!

I-i-i-i-i-i-i-i-i - Im willing and able,
So I throw my cards on your table!
See: I wanna love ya, I wanna love and treat ya -
Love and treat ya right.
I wanna love you every day and every night:
Well be together, with a roof right over our heads!
Well share the shelter of my single bed;
Well share the same room, yeah! jah provide the bread.
Well share the shelter of my single bed - /fadeout/

This was one of the few love songs Marley wrote.
I have fond memories of this song. My husband, Ed, and I used to sleep in a single bed way back then, cozy!, when he'd work answering phones overnite at the local Roto Rooter. Happy days they were!

this is a great Bob Marley song!There are so many great love songs...this isn't fair to expect us to pick just one!
A recent one is by Susan Gibson who wrote Wide Open Spaces....
Together Strong. It might be on You Tube.
One More time by Laura Pausini
How Will I Live Without You by Trisha Yearwood
ust to name a few.
well, almost as good as the song with the same name that Whitesnake wrote... you could hear that one in every stripper bar in the mid 80's

Greatness is so subjective. It’s the special moments that make a song truly meaningful.

Thanks for the recommendations. I will check them out.

It’s a pretty good tune. Although, I don’t usually equate love songs with stripper bars.

Just kidding my friend. I was being a smartypants. Although I am amused by the voice-over on that old commercial on TV for "Monster Rock Ballads" or something like that (that included Whitesnake's tripe along with "Every Rose has it's Thorn" etc.) where the announcer reverently says
"They taught us how to love..."
.......and I so easily took the bait. I've learned a lot from Bret Michaels. Haven't you?
It's a great song. Hey, but being a love child himself, Bob did not present himself as a steadfast partner for his loves, in particular Rita.

My favorite right now is "If I ain't got you" by Alicia Keys.
Great, timeless love song... "No One"--Alicia Keys.
Marley was a bit of a rolling stone. In his case, absence made the heart grow more distant.

The true measure of a love song is universal appeal and the ability to stand the test of time. In her short career, Keys has managed to make the grade.
