Even before we taste that first sweet breath of air, experience the warm yellow rays of the sun rising upon a new life, already we have taken you for granted. As we swim in the embryonic fluid, tethered by the cord that both feeds us and teaches us dependence, we are branded with the image of your soul, the memory of the safety of the womb. The pain of our first separation, that frightening moment when we are thrust into the light, the agony of being severed from the maternal cocoon brings our first expression of love. We cry out at the thought that we might have to live without you. We instinctively search for the connection that was lost when we were separated from your physical body. As we are laid upon your bosom we are reassured that you are the one who will always be there when we need to be nurtured. It is the image of the mother that will be seared upon our memories for eternity. So when you are gone home to that place where we were created, it is natural that we should long for the day when we can once again feel protected in your warm embrace.

So poetic. Glad to see another post from you, Spiritman.
For some reason my friend Mary thinks this would be more meaningful if she knew when I wrote it. Thanks to my trusty Apple I have the answer. Sunday, September 14, 2003 9:41 AM.

My mom's a pip, you know? She's in her eighties now, and happy. I don't think she has any serious regrets except that she never met Bing Crosby.

This is just so lovely and transporting in its lyricism....
...and what a great photo! I love her expression.
BEAUTIFUL!!! If this is a picture of your mother she is stunning!
I cannot talk about this. It stole all my words! How I cherish you. I went to visit my mother's resting place on Mother's Day, and...this is what I would've thought...but you thought it for me. I hope she felt what you wrote...
Nodding head in agreement.
Your Mom was a beautiful woman and a picture of strength. You can see it in her eyes.
This is the truth.Thank you for sharing your loving thoughts.
