Obamacare Is A Republican Compromise!

Rate: 6 Flag

Untitled

I refuse to jump on a bandwagon in this divisive, totally dysfunctional, deliberately manipulated political debate about the healthcare mandate!

I do not understand anyone who defends a mandate that requires individual citizens to throw their hard earned money away in a system that would be better named "sickcare!" To legally require people to participate in health insurance "for profit" is immoral in my book!  From the beginning I have stood for a system that would resemble Medicare for all. The public option was never even given a vote. All of the aspects of so called "Obamacare" that are most unpopular were in FACT originally Republican ideas. First they proposed it, now they are against it! This is all insanity. Where is rational thought in this debate? In the latest polls the aspects of the new healthcare law, that actually care about real human beings over profit, are overwhelmingly popular!

I say throw out the mandate! Good riddance! In reality it was simply a windfall for the health insurance industry, which in my opinion should die a quick death. Their only purpose is to stand between the payer and the services required and steal the money! That is why so many intelligent people advocated for a single payer system.

READ MY LIPS: "As a culture, as a country, as a political system, we are acting pathetic!"

Turn off the television and turn on your mind!  The real enemy is vulture capitalism that allows corporations to profit from people's pain! The real enemy is a system that forces people to choose between health and having a roof over their heads and food on the table. Money is the root of all evil if we allow it to be God! We need to focus! The constitution was not written to protect profits, it was written to protect PEOPLE!

The Republican "Health Equity and Access Reform Today Act of 1993” was the first healthcare bill to require every American citizen to carry health insurance! It is very similar to the “Obamacare” Republicans oppose today!
Amazing how what was once a Republican idea coming from a Democratic president is now maligned by said Republicans. I have always been in favor of single payer. We are far behind many European nations in providing health care for all citizens. Our problem is that the greedy bastards are so deeply embedded in our economy after years of health care for profit, that I'm afraid there isn't enough dynamite in this country to blow them out of the way without collateral damage. This is a lesson on the hazards of compromise, especially when we borrow from the opposition, hoping some of them will support our efforts.
Very good points about for-profit insurance. Single Payer is really the right way to go.
Couldn't agree more SpiritMan. Worst of all if you don't pay the fine (tax) it goes up for every year you don't buy the insurance. What if your job doesn't actually afford you enough to pay the mortgage, bills, food, transportation, and for mandatory insurance? These people have fallen and bumped their heads.
I'm in total agreement. Obamacare is the start of the privatization of all Federal tax monies. Cut out the middle men just pay your taxes directly to Wall Street.
The only time Republicans and the right wing-nuts are against transfer of public monies to the private sector is when they can blame it on the first African American president for political currency! And the only reason they can blame it on him is because he compromised with THEM!
?I refuse to jump on a bandwagon in this divisive, totally dysfunctional, deliberately manipulated political debate about the healthcare mandate!"

But wait a minute, "ya are on the bandwagon Blanche, ya are" And a delightfully noise one too. I agree with you all around. Americana are reality-show-brain-dead. If you haven;t already Go read Berman's "Why America Failed." You will love it. Your wonderful last paragraph tells me you will find a kindred spirit.
Thank you Francoise. My wagon is going in the opposite direction of the one most are jumping onto. I'll check out Berman.
I'm with you, SpiritMan. The requirement that all Americans purchase a virtually worthless corporate product is clearly unconstitutional. It's time for the US to provide publicly sponsored health care like the rest of the industrialized world. It's a concept supported by 60% of the population and even a larger percent of doctors.
there is a clause built into the legislation that requires the private carriers to prove they are not making profits superior to cost and care. my bet is they will fail, and the system will then have to be taken over by the govt. but at least this way, it can be said they were given the chance, and blew it. think incrementalism. that's what's gotten it this far.
bullshit bramhall. the only way you're going to get some of these dumb-dumbs to buy insurance is shame them. it isn't a matter of the fine, though the math shows it is necessary. a lot of them can afford it, they just won't buy. take of those damn ideological blinders.
The obvious end point is some form of single payer. The mandatory purchase clause is really patch for get a bill through. I think it's constitutional, just not *this* court of (five) fools. IF they strike down this bill in June, the race for the presidency will be "Obama vs. the SCOTUS" One other thought: What about Massachusets? Does that health care law get killed, too?
what i meant to say here is the obama plan is at least a start, and should not be dismissed by "liberals" not attuned to the political realities.
I do whole heartedly concur with you here.
