Embracing the Nobel

Rate: 1 Flag

On the surface, today's announcement of President Obama's Nobel Peace Prize win would certainly seem ridiculous, but one must remember the Nobel is not a lifetime achievement award. Other recipients have received the award not for what they did achieve, but what they had tried to achieve. This was given to him not only for what he's done, but what he wants to do.

Here in the States, we have gotten to see very little about what he's done to transform global politics already. It's a good sign when you have the Taliban denouncing the win, but Iran praising it. It means we're being tough where we need to be tough while still willing to work with other nations to achieve peace and stability for the entire planet.

Mostly this was a great big flipped finger to the imperialism promoted by the Bush Administration. It's recognition to the President, and the country as a whole, that the global community is pleased that we're back to being citizens of the world, and not just a country of bullies with a massive military complex.

Americans should embrace his win, instead of denigrating it. We've all earned our little piece of the Peace Prize.
