Deconstructing the Fashion of a Lost Love

Rate: 27 Flag

Some things cost way too much...

Black with charcoal grey swirls and long sleeves gathered at the wrist. Eight buttons circled by fabric loops parade down the fitted front, to just above the waist, where the sheer fabric flows out ever so slightly, to wave across sashaying hips. Flat, collarless neckline, offset by tiny ruffles that march alongside the buttons.

The first and last time I wore the blouse, it was around this time last year. It was paired with dark designer jeans and these shoes:

                                        heels

Feminine, beautiful, delicate. Dry Clean Only.

We went to Cheuvront for a bite to eat and thought we would see a movie afterward. I remember Jeremiah greeting us as we came in and he told me I looked great, then seated us at the table by the bar.  There was a group of women sitting nearby wearing that “groomed-to-within-an-inch-of-their-lives” look.  I giggled when one of them ordered the “pra-skew-too” & fig tart. You didn’t notice as you were busy checking email on your phone.

A James Bond film was playing in French on the screen off to our right.  The one with Domino in it. You searched for movie times for “Slumdog Millionaire” after Jeremiah said he saw it and thought it was good. The reviews you had found during dinner were mixed. My French was too rusty but I had already seen Thunderball a hundred times, so I was able to follow along. We hurriedly finished our meal so we could catch the 10:15 show.

The remainder of that evening, after the movie, no longer exists in my mind. Not by choice. I suspect there was nothing remarkable about it. There is only a hazy image of the blouse, crumpled and tucked into my overnight bag.  Unappreciated, and duly discarded.

I finally wore the blouse again. To work, on Monday this week. Over a faded, black thermal shirt, well-worn jeans with frayed cuffs, and these shoes:

                                           asskickers

Rebellious, powerful, quirky.  Machine Wash Cold.

I say, fuck it...Indeed.
By your description, you must have looked fabulous in the blouse the first time . . . but your description of the next time you wore it . . . still fabulous. Just calling it like I see it, in my mind's eye. Rock on, spotted_mind . . .
Fuck it indeed... but first tell me where you got the second pair of shoes... those rock.
I like the second pair of shoes.
fun read.

Love the second pair of shoes and the whole second outfit! I get this idea of reclaiming clothes that were "special" and making them something more lively. It's you who made them so.
I like 'em both! I get it and I'm sorry. Sometimes life takes a dump in your lap and sometimes it doesn't..
Owl: Thanks--your words always mean a lot to me. xoxoxo
Trig: yup. XOXO
Surly: Ya know, I've had those damn shoes forever! Walked in the NE snow and the AZ sunshine in 'em. Thanks. :-)
Mike: Cool. Glad it was fun for you, but those first shoes I have nick-named The Cripplers... ;-)
CK: Glad you got it, I'm still trying to brush off the bad memories...
Cat: LOL...and thanks for understanding. I like to be able to chose "funky" over melancholy, any day of the week. ;-)
Lunchlady: Thanks for getting it...xoxoxo
The first shoes are my style if only my feet would agree.

Strange how emotional clothes can make us feel, but I'm another who throws out things that carry painful memories.
I have likely clothed an entire continent in my heartbreak. Okay, maybe a small country....
Fine post. Any "man" who would check his email whilst dinning with you is not worthy of you.
Can I get a pair of those pumps in 13 EEE?
i get it. the guy sounds like a true asshat and good riddance. but a great guy would love you and your shoes, both of 'em. change "would" to "will."
Midwest Muse: Hey, thanks for coming over! Yes, they did kick butt...
Linda: I can only throw out so much and not be wearing the barrel that Cat mentioned...
O'Really: Let's raid each other's closets, yeah? xoxoxo
Rutilus Extraho: Thanks for reading (between the lines)! :-)
WA: I know...see my "bump" comment. ;-)
Michael: I dunno about that...mine are a 5 1/2...although I will gladly send them to you anyway!
femme: yup, "asshat." But I loved him (like an idiot, I suppose). *SIGH* Thanks for your support. xoxoxo
Someday I'm going to burn every bit of clothing I have.
I just have to let it all go.
I think I'll wait until just before I die. That's just going to be very, very hard to time.
Rebellious, powerful, quirky. That's the gal I know.
ok, spot girl.

This is what I would consider a mashup. You could call it recycling or all sorts of things, but what is cooler than a simple mashup, no?

Somehow, you are tapping into the edge of the zeit geist and applying the dominant creative meme to fashion.

I think it is uber cool and you just need to run with it.

It is cooler than you imagine.
I can't figure out why but the thought of you in "the blouse" (and if The Donald would let you borrow it... The Hair) with the running shoes makes me want to take you out to dinner. What an awesome combo!! To the curb with the louse. Farewell and good riddance.
Love the post and the quirky style. Dress to please yourself, not off some fashion rag cover! you GO! R
Since I met you in person I can see you in either, and I often do the same sort of thing...have to, or we'd be spending a fortune trying to find perfect Thumbelina clothing :)
jane: Cool--thanks!
Cindy Ross: Nope, no pic of the blouse, but thanks for the "soleful" rating--you're so clever!
65ASA: you could do it now, but move to nudist colony in a warm climate.
Lonnie: Aw, shucks. Thanks! xoxo
Nick: you flatter me too much...don't stop. :-)
mypysche: I actually thought people would make fun of them--cool that you like 'em!
Chris Brown: he's long gone, but the memories still linger...
Rose: I've got a style all my own, and I don't even drink Sprite. ;-)
Buffy: I love seeing you back here! And "Thumbelina" clothes--ha! You're so right. xoxoxo
Caroline: Aw, thanks friend--means a lot to me!
We so all have outfits like that. nicely done.
Your intro captured my attention and I was not disappointed. I do confess, I was wishing a cinderella ending for that blouse...
Noni: Thanks. :-)
Karin: LOL..."grand late". You would. :-)
Lisa: Thank you very much. Last time I posted pics of my shoes, you hated them. ;-)
NOVAcatmando: Ah yes. Me too, my friend, me too....
I am glad I came back to read this. It was wonderful.
