Did you see Danny Glover’s speech at the Occupy Oakland event last week? It was one of the most passionate presentations given on why the 99%ers need to come together to reverse the corporatists’ anti-democratic effort to destroy workers' rights in this country. Much of Glover’s speech was directed toward the destruction of the labor movement in recent decades.
He noted that 88% of the workers in this country no longer have a way of collective bargaining to protect the economic and social needs of their families. And this percentage is increasing. If recent anti-collective bargaining efforts put forth by the wingnut governors in Wisconsin, Florida and Ohio are upheld, this number will most definitely increase. And this is just the beginning of the corporatist attempt to destroy the labor movement throughout America.
As Danny Glover expressed, we are at a critical turning point in American history. We can either sit back and let the elitists push American workers into a new form of indentured servitude, or we can stand up now to reverse this trend.
Please watch the video.
It drives home an important message from the Occupy movement.
