Not far from me is a restaurant serving Lion Hamburgers.
I'm not sure what to say, but seriously why?
First off Africa is a continent, not a country. I just thought I needed to point that out the the author of this wonderful article.
Secondly, in America we tend not to eat cats. They just aren't part of the types of things we normally eat. It's kind of against our norms to eat lions.
African Lions are vulnerable for extinction, this means they are limited in numbers. According to the IUNC redlist:
"A species population reduction of approximately 30% is suspected over the past two decades (= approximately three Lion generations). The causes of this reduction (primarily indiscriminate killing in defense of life and livestock, coupled with prey base depletion: Bauer 2008), are unlikely to have ceased."
One the other hand we have 1.5 BILLION Cows on the planet right now. Why not just eat a regular burger instead?

The photo of mama and cub is beyond adorable.
This hits a similar nerve (only more-so) as butchering horses to sell for consumption in foreign countries. If you treat it as a pet/companion animal, don't kill it for food. Or to look at it from the other side - lots of cultures do eat cats and dogs - why don't we butcher and send them all of our stray cats and dogs?!!!
So not good on so many levels.
