This has been an interesting week. Have we won anything? Well, no . . . not in the material sense, but we have acquired a whole lot of knowledge.
We have learned that there are all kinds of legitimate companies out there, giving away chances to win lots of 'stuff'. But, the girls have also learned that there are scams gallore, just waiting to take advantage of unsuspecting people. It has opened up all kinds of discussion over dinner. Seniors who unwittingly give out information to slimey callers who ask for a VISA or bank info in order to process their 'prize' just about knocked the wind out of them.
We had gotten a call from a contest entry, with a recorded message that clearly was looking to see if we were gullible. I showed the girls how to look up info online to investigate. They found heartbreaking posts of broken people who had been taken - and of course, the worse stories were posted by love ones of seniors who'd been swindled.
Yes, we're still entering contests, but I have a feeling this venture may prove to be more educational than profitable.
But, then again, who can put a price on a good education?
