I Am Bothered

Rate: 13 Flag

I am bothered by the child in my class who hasn’t been at school for a week and a half and whom we suspect may be homeless.

I am bothered by the parent of one of my students who is “not satisfied” with her child’s Kindergarten experience.

I am bothered by the fact that my friends’ jobs hang in the balance while corporations and rich people continue to ask for tax breaks.

I am bothered by diminishing social programs that dump greater burdens in the laps of the schools.

I am bothered by elitism.

I am bothered by the people who think that the “white” school in the district does a better job of educating than my more “mixed” school.

I am bothered by the building of nuclear power plants in earthquake-prone countries.

I am bothered by my own inadequacies as a teacher, mother, life partner.

I am bothered by skin tags, age spots, wrinkles.

I am bothered by chemicals in my cosmetics, cleaning supplies, air, food, and water.

I am bothered by that which I cannot control

And that which I can.

I am really, really bothered.

Sorry, don't mean to put a damper on anybody's St. Paddy's Day, but when you've got the blues, you wanna share 'em.
I'm Jewish. We're bothered by everything. That's why we invented the word "kvetch."
I am bothered by the parents who have NO damn clue what a teacher does and she does this out of the love from her heart.

I hear you loud and clear. Tell it how you feel it.

Sadly enough, I'm bothered by a lot of the same things you are, although I'm a community college teacher, which surprisingly has a lot of similar problems.
I am bothered by Wall Street, which is doing great, not turning around and investing the money in new jobs. I'm also bothered by the republicans that came in yelling Jobs, Jobs, Jobs, but now can't spell the word!
I hope sharing helped you a little, 'cause you're not alone at all - and you are very much alive!

A litany of bothers--well said, sweetfeet. I was saying "amen" after each one. I sometimes, most times--shoot, I flat out think that when we stop being bothered we should be bothered, and worried.
I agree with your every word!!!!
I am bothered too...
It took 16 minutes for this hacked-contraption to go from my last comment to the Open Salon's Front Page. That's not counting repeated efforts (I flunked) to get back on OS via Yahoo! Blue?

I could hear you strumming a guitar and singing these blues.
It's always nice when Art drops by. :) Thanks all for being here!
Sometimes you get an itch up under your shirt and it just needs a good scratchin'. We've all been there. I hope tomorrow is a better day... though that homeless kid is troubling.
Thank you for caring enough to be bothered. I have always admired our world's teachers and healers, your dedication is inspiring.
As I read this, I felt like it was I who had written these "bothers." I can certainly relate and I hope writing these out helped heal your blues.
