In Which I Am Not As Nasty As I Really Want To Be

Dear City of Santa Rosa Parking Enforcement,

Okay, I’ll admit that I deserved the first ticket. I knew I hadn’t put enough change in the meter, but it was all I had. The ticket was not unexpected, and I don’t mind contributing to the coffers of the city in which I live once in a while, particularly when I am in the wrong. I have friends who work for you, and I’m willing to contribute to their paychecks.

However, I take offense at this late fee. My payment was two days late. TWO DAYS LATE. And I have been charged another full $35. I was shocked. It would seem logical to prorate it, or charge a small fee. But since the due dates are probably chosen with a certain degree of arbitrariness, it could just as easily been on time. I feel gouged.

I’m paying it. I don’t have time or energy to fight this. I have too much on my plate, as does everyone else I know. Bet you were counting on that, huh? It’ll have to come out of my daughter’s college fund.

I hope my $35 goes to some sort of good use in the City of Santa Rosa. Buy some books for the library; fill a pothole or two. But you should know I go to downtown Santa Rosa less and less as parking becomes more inconvenient and expensive. Disappointing all the way around.

The way of the our great land these days. In order to sell my house I have to put in a new septic system to replace the one that has worked like a charm for 30 years. I have to hire an engineer (required) and get permits from and pay fees to eight town, county and state agencies. Everyone has their hand out. R
Try getting a late fee at Jack London Park!
I think you handled it very well. Use your anger for better things - like maybe the spammer who just posted something in the comment above mine?
Sorry, that should have said "use your anger ON better things". I suck sometimes. Even the spammer wrote his/her/its comment correctly....
[r] one of my creditors changed the size of the envelope my bill comes in. I got legal envelopes with their bullshit pr. I get small letter envelopes with the bill. I got confused and was of course whacked with a similar late charge. Money to a bankster. Another bill last month, negotiating a stolen payment from a public mailbox (I got the ripped envelope back in the mail from the PO) I got another fine for being late with the next payment. Sigh. citizen beware in corporate gouging America. Darwinism all the way as we approach the "fiscal cliff" that comes about from a subservient administration and Congress to the filthy rich. 10 trillion dollars to bail out the oligarchs and we are gouged. you are right, fighting city hall gets you all the more punished. best, libby
You're right, Maurene, I don't have much to complain about. So this is it. :)
