A Birthday Wish From Our 8 Year Old

Rate: 38 Flag

I recently found a note from our 8 year old daughter,Mauri, that she wrote to her mom for her birthday. Here it is typed exaclty as it was written:

Dear mom,

I hope all of your wishes come true and this house gets clean somehow and every thing gets put back in it's place and you wish you wher  not old and first your  a kindergardener then your in third grade then your in high school then your in college then you like a boy then you love a boy then you get married and then you have kids then your a grandmother and then you die.

I hope you have a happy birthday!

your daghter,Mauri

Mauri is now 21 and is a senior at Texas A&M. She has a 4.0 GPA ,and will graduate in December. Then it's off to law school. Mauri  wants to be the first woman president of our country.Seriously. (I have mixed emotions, as she is ultra-conservative)

I think I'll frame this'un
It is definitely worthy of framing.
What a summary of life! But she left out college and being president!
Well, being president anyway. You might be surprised. Texas A&M is the heart of conservatism. It could be camouflage. When she graduates, she might shed that like a snake shed its old skin that has gotten too small. Brilliant when she was eight, brilliant now.
she got college in there,it was probably a little early to put president in there..
I love that you still have this, I love the simple words of an 8 year old child. And look at her now...making papa proud! Now, please, just work on the ultra-conservative thing...I'd like to be able to vote for her someday!
aww (and wow, bright kid!)
Oh, it's a keeper!
T-B--I'm SO glad you're back! I've missed you something fierce! And I love that Faulkner-esque sentence! As a lawyer, she'll have many opportunities to write! Congratulations on raising such a brilliant and ambitious daughter! I'd like to vote for her, too--if she can change her mind about some things! Rated. D
I love it when I run across some of my childrens stuff. Mine are 42 and 39 now. Neither is conservative thank god. Both were talented in different ways. They still are, one in art the other in dance.

Ultra conservative, ouch! I hope she moderates while she makes her way through life. My son in law last year changed his registration from Republican to Delcine to State as he mentioned "my party left me, they have insulted my intelligence for the last time"

He is fiscal conservative and social moderate, a corporate Vice President who voted for Obama and still is supportive.

It was and is to him the only practical alternative to digging out of this mess.
You should definitely frame this, T. You must be proud as punch. I know I would be. Have you shown this to Mauri, yet?
Don't you just love those note from the kids?! Those are among the many things I miss and will miss from my kids' childhoods. Thanks for sharing.
Eight-years-old & sums up life in a single paragraph. The amazing mind of a child. This does belong in a frame with a photo of Mauri!
As the father of a wise 8-year old myself, I can so relate. Framed and visible I say. Wonderful

Aw! If I were your wife, that note is something I'd rescue in the event of a fire. Too precious!
I love it! "and then you die"! It's something for blackmail when she's a mother.
If your daughter runs for president, I hope she chooses you as a running mate. There's a ticket I would support! Great letter.
Loved this, especially the punchline. Frame the letter and give it to her to hang in the Oval Office.
this made me smile.

this (I have mixed emotions, as she is ultra-conservative) made me laugh
I love these "finds." She sounds like she's doing great and has a proud papa. I'm guessing your going to vote for her anyway, and she'll move to the left. I have no idea why I think that.
Sounds like your daughter knew the value of time and that she's made the most of it so far (except for that ultra-conservative part). And it says a lot that you kept it all these years.
"I hope . . . this house gets clean somehow and every thing gets put back in it's place . . .", I can read a whole backstory in that wish, one that I know well

and the summarization of life's path is priceless in its innocence and simple wisdom

frame it
That is absolutely precious!
Yes, a frame is in order!
This is a treasure and as far as the ultra conservative goes it certainly is great camoaflage in Texas. Be hopeful though, a lot of kids go through an Ayn Rand phase and grow out of it.
precious and worthy of framing.
I can actually visualize this hanging in her office of the future. The Oval Office, POTUS. Kids are amazing beings...
Rated & Cheers!
Well I hope it takes a while for her to get married and have a baby and make you a grandma, because after that, all that's left, in her words, are "and then you die."
oops, make that "grandpa", not "grandma". sorry 'bout that, T-Bucket!
Love it! Things are so simple for kids, aren't they? "...first your a kindergardener....and then you die". Precious!

Yes, save it. My aunt saved all of my letters I sent to her, and recently returned them to me. It was fun to read them some 50+ years later.
That is a beautiful letter.
That was great! Really sweet.
That's a keeper for sure.
That's great. Children say the most amazing things.
Great note! Make sure you read that back to her every couple of years!
You might be surprised. Texas A&M is the heart of conservatism. It could be camouflage. When she graduates, she might shed that like a snake shed its old skin that has gotten too small. Brilliant when she was eight, brilliant now.
