My Geek Moment
About a week ago, I had my first, really true 'Geek Moment'.
I'm fairly adept with a computer, and can make my way around and figure out most things. But I'm not one of those gifted techie geeks whose verbal perambulations of a language foreign to my brain waxes prozac… Read full post »
One Good Turd (or - Another Pile of Poo)
So. I turned on the television, and a commercial suddenly gave me pause. It is an animation of a bunch of diaper clad babies, who one by one turn their backs to the audience. Suddenly, the diaper blows up like a balloon. There is a party like atmosphere, and each baby… Read full post »
Taos Sunset in January
I get to live in a very magical place; a place where the stars dance in the night sky, a place where clouds shapeshift across a massive sky.

A single sunset in a single day transforms itself in just a few moments in time.

The… Read full post »
Baking Bread
I love to bake bread. And to bite in to a thick warm slice, butter melting and steaming and scenting the air with the comfortable, home made smell of childhood.
When I bake bread, I make one large, magnificent batch of thirty two or so loaves. Several loaves will be speckled… Read full post »
That Charming Red Fox
I grew up in a rural area, where there were plenty of animals for me to delight over. We had white tail deer, groundhogs, raccoons and various little redentia. I knew there were skunks around, because you could occasionally smell their distinctive perfume in the night air. And I knew there… Read full post »
Three Silly Questions asked at a Ski Resort
I work in the ticket office at Taos Ski Valley, in northern New Mexico, every winter. It's nice, seasonal work, I get to be on the mountain, and I don't have to buy a ski pass!
I never skiied until after I moved here. I learned on this mountain six years ago. And this… Read full post »
Ban Horse Slaughter (Again) & SHAME ON PETA!
Stick this one in your craw and chew on it.
A female horse, beginning the birth process of her young foal. A time that is supposed to bring a certain joy and satisfaction to all creatures. A new beginning. And while this is happening, the mare, in her stuggle is… Read full post »
Yak Attack - Life in the Pasture Series #2
One of my favorite times in the pasture was early morning, just after sunrise, when drops of dew glistened on the grass stalks, and the birds gave voice to their summer songs, flitting from tree to tree. This spring into summer time is magical, and new life is everywhere.
I liked… Read full post »
Bhumi the Bison - Life in the Pasture Series #1
Driving up the dirt road to the trailer I had rented, I felt a sense of elation and anticipation. The right side of the short lane consisted of several pastures, each holding different animals. The first pasture contained a cow, a heifer, and a ram. The field behind my trailer… Read full post »
Cool Things About Taos

One of many magnificent sunsets in Taos. Copyright 2012 Ya Devi
I live in a rural little town in Northern New Mexico that is famous for a few things.
The first would be the Taos Pueblo, the consistantly inhabited home of the Tiwa People for oh, about a thousand years.… Read full post »
Bear With Us
From the depths of a deep and cozy sleep, something was knocking quite persistently at my brain. As I emerged from unconsciousness, all I could think was "what are those dogs DOING?" I recognized a rattling at the back door, scratching sounds, and figured the dogs wanted to be let inside. … Read full post »
Tuesday Night Write Club
I've been getting acquanted with an old lover for the past several weeks, on Tuesday evenings. When I am, except for the dog, alone, from about 3 pm until 10pm or so, I am feverishly ensconced in an all encompassing embrace that draws me in so completely that for several hours,… Read full post »
Hot Wings in the Twilight Zone: A True Vignette
The Flashlight, the Ski Pole & the Dog: Mountain Living.
The house sits at the bottom of a 150 foot dirt driveway, the top of which has a steep incline up the last ten feet to the road. In wintertime this can be problematic even for a four wheel drive. So, I often park on an overlook a short walk away,… Read full post »
"Madame, You Must Have Shower!"
The Wrong Side of the Bus
Travelling as a lone white woman in India, you get used to long, unblinking stares, and intense curiosity. If you perchance to move about in rural locations, there is every possibility that you will be the first white person that some of the locals have ever seen. I experienced intense scrutiny… Read full post »
Tashi's Gift
"It's not good news," said Dr. Doug. "The biopsy
shows that it's a very pernicious cancer. The chances of the tumor
growing back are very high. It's a matter of time." The
veterinarian rubbed his forehead, and I could see the emotion in
his eyes. The knot in my stomach… Read full post »
