When Krystollites Attack -- The Sad End of Helen Thomas
Sigh, poor Helen Thomas. I feel bad, she was ineloquent, she was wrong, but come on, no one speaks on this subject in an eloquent or rational way. This is one of those subjects, just like Abortion, is one of those subjects Americans are unable to rationally discuss.
There is a complexity of problems in the Middle East religious tensions are never easily solvable. If we all give it some thought we can see both sides who come to the table, in the past and currently have made horrific mistakes, leading to this terrible situation. The Settlements, Gaza, bombings of Israeli citizens, there is a legacy of horrible behavior on both sides. I remember the 1970's, it seemed visiting Israel was a extremely dangerous for regular folks. No one wanted to be caught in some terrorist bombing of a Pizza joint.
I fear we will never solve any of these problems, as in all seriousness, we lack complexity in our solutions and in how we think about issues. Neither population has done themselves any favors, electing organizations such as Hamas, Likud, who do the population at large no favors with their continued Hatfield and McCoy attitudes towards one-another. Until each, come to any negotiations as honest brokers looking for real sustainable solutions, which require compromise, the problems simply will not be solved. I am quite certain, none of this will happen in my lifetime. Obviously the situation in the Middle East has been deteriorating for decades. It is strange how all the same players seem to have reason to keep this fight going, and never compromise. These leads us literally to a stand-off diplomatically, where we are literally left with no solutions.
Helen Thomas, admittedly is a victim of her own statement that had a lack of nuance and complexity, but this is exactly what builds a great soundbite. This one, ending a long and distinguished career. Why is it those righties so revel in the destruction of other humans? They are always bent on tainting others with a certain immorality. I know what you righties are going to write next, that liberals do it too. No doubt. Larry Craig, Rush Limbaugh, great comedy. Yet some of the great anti-semites of our time are folks like Pat Buchanan, yet there he stays sitting at MSNBC, sipping coffee, offering irrelevant commentary. I guess, I should check myself the next time some republican gets caught like this, but what happened to Helen Thomas is merely one more step that has led to a greater polarization of America. How sad. I hate it.
