Bio
I am a 55 year old mother and wife who considers herself a progressive. I write a blog about midlife and all that I find interesting, disappointing, scary, funny and otherwise about it. I am a midwesterner and generally like to keep things clear and simple. www.midriffmuse.com These days, everything comes into question. Who and what is going to get my time and energy? Do I really want to keep everything I've accumulated? Now that my schedule and activities are not dictated by being present for my kids' interests, where do I want to go and what do I want to do? Admittedly, I can sometimes be cranky, opinionated or even downright judgmental, but above all I am trying to be honest, forthright and in integrity with myself and my loved ones. I am often much more amused by myself than some people think I should be.

Veteran’s Day – Geneseo, IL

Rate: 2 Flag

Geneseo, Il honors its Veterans with a flag for each one back through the Civil War - over 650!

Yesterday I joined my sister, Peggy and my mother for a road trip to Geneseo, IL to visit Peggy’s son Mark and his wife, Kyle and their three children: Connor, Cailin and Carson.

This morning we learned that the city honors its veterans by displaying a flag for every citizen who has served, each flagpole identifying the name of the veteran, the branch of service and the war/wars served in.  There were some 657 flags lining the walks of the city park.  We noted at least one flag for a veteran of the Civil War.

There is much to admire in this small city of about 6000 citizens, but the above display of respect and honor tells a story all by itself.

My mother, sister and I enjoyed a great day strolling the sidewalks of Geneseo with Cailin and Connor.  We also squeezed in some quality time with the newest arrival in the family.

I said to myself:`Go to bed. Don't dare read the blogs.
Well.
I diso'bed.
I browsed.
I should have obeyed.
James M. Emmerling is on the pot stinking-up the joint? H's more clear than knock knock.
Knock knock. Who hoot?
James M. E. toot a bugle?
James M.E is a cute baby!
He [s] thinks like baby jesu?
He'd change diaper with socks?
Dirty and holy socks he looted.
He's more fun than knock joke.
Who comprehend knock knock?
A knock-up joke makes no sense.
Knock knock. Who is there? JME.
JME says:`I'm on pot to puff pot!
`The knocker ask:`
Ya gonna be at a pot pew forever?
JME responds:`I sit at pot festa!
`
That's how I got here. I followed. Thanks. Those little ones sitting on the love-seat-couch, and the one dribbling on your lap (the newest), bring more joy than knock knock humor. I just those youngest won't hang around with James M. Emmerling. I think I recognized JME on a:`
Most Wanted By The FBI poster in the Post Office. Just Love the youngest. They may end up as:`
Postman/women-of-the-Month.
I Hope they stay out of VFW bars.
I was in DC and had a bowl of Pho.
Nurture those beautiful lil rascals.
Geneseo used to KICK OUR BUTTS in Speech Team and Reader's Theatre back in the 80s. I'll always have a soft spot for that town.
That's a lovely tribute from a thoughtful town: thanks!
My grand - nephew Connor and I also found a spot in the park where a time capsule was buried on July 4,1976, to be reopened on July 4, 2076. We calculated that since he was born in 2001, chances are likely he might be around when the capsule is reopened. I agreed to meet him there if I am still around at the age of 123!
I love your family pictures b/c they show such a close knit loving family. Nice post.
Nice family pic and I loved the flag scene too. It just seems so, well, so American. :-)
Appreciated.
