We (Steve and Helen) irresponsibly gave up our promising careers in aviation and bookselling over ten years ago. Now books seem to have taken over our lives. We frequent libraries, bookstores, and thrift shops in search of interesting books. We buy/swap/sell, but mainly, we read. We both wear glasses and have been mistaken for librarians.

Favorite Open Salon Content of The Century (so far)

Rate: 20 Flag

Favorite Open Salon posts of 2009? Too limited a time frame. Favorite OS posts of the Decade? Better, but still too limited. Favorite OS posts and blogs? Almost there.

Join us in the Wayback Machine to revisit The BiblioFiles' Favorite Open Salon Content (Posts and Blogs) of The Century (so far).

Many of our favorite blogs on Open Salon have been abandoned. Here are some that we miss.

  cynthia blair

Cynthia Blair blogs about hiking the Pacific Coast Trail with her husband, a professional gambler.

cuteboysmakemenervous - an odd and edgy blog with an international twist.

Dina Emerson - life in Las Vegas as lead singer of a Cirque du Soleil show.

Here's one of our favorite OS blogs that is still active.

Monsieur Chariot. The adventures of a 19th century French gentleman in 21st century Los Angeles.

And one that we hope is still active or maybe just on a break.

BkLvr - blogs about the books she reads. She likes mysteries, social history, young adult (is she a teacher?), current events, and more.

And two stand-alone posts that we especially enjoyed.

Martha Nichols on Hayley Mills in The Trouble With Angels. This brought back fond memories and made us look at a favorite movie in a different way.

Procopius's Cold War adventure on the wrong side of the Berlin Wall border crossing. Exciting stuff. (And funny.)

Enough of looking back -- it's on to 2010 and a whole new year of Open Salon.

First! Great list! Rated.
Several are new to me. Thanks for pointing them out, and Happy New Year.
Ye GODS, I miss the batz!

(thumbified for Mr. Peabody)
I can't believe I've missed so many great posts! Thanks for the list.
Funny. This whole Best Of thing put me in such a bad mood, I was wondering what CCC and Batz would make of it. I miss them, and so many others. So glad you're still here, Biblios! Thank you for this list, and the grace you always add to this place. To the new year, indeed.
Speaking of missing the best---I miss you!
Oh, thanks so much for putting this collection at my fingertips! Makes life so much OSsier.
Happy New Year to you !
What a scathingly brilliant idea to capture past bloggers!
I'd give anything to know how we lost Batz! and CCC. Niether flounced - they were just gone. Every Saturday when I see the cartoons, I mourn the loss of Batz!
Why, thank you, Biblios, and I must return the compliment. Your "I Won't Read Moby Dick" post really got me into OS.
Thanks. I still feel relatively, a newbie.
It's the perpetual 'outlaw ptsd symptom.
A 'drone' on and on. Ay, to `buzz-on-out.
If you snore next to me, it's `cool-to-poke.
Love tap.
I'll check out.
I mean`go read.
Read in the sack.
Sip raw goat milk.
Share with friends.
Neighbors at a bar.
Stop over for a nap.
No wear stinky socks.
I'll tuck Helen in bed.
She snore with Martha.
Snore with Steve & EP?
Thanks for the`pointing.
Biblio, you posts are always among the ones I'm excited to read. I'm honored that you include me in this list. Happy Holidays to you and yours!
MORE EOY goodness and posts I missed. good grief. I need another long weekend off. Thanks!
Kudos simply for finding a picture of Sherman and Mr. Peabody.

Applause for a marvelous post that definitely includes a few people I have not yet discovered.

Sincerest thanks, and hope you have a happy and healthy New Year!
I miss Mon Petite Minet Adorable (BATZ) with all my heart! Your incomprehensible inclusion of my withering blog brings, I must admit, some comfort. Best wishes to dear M. Steve and dearest Mme Helen for continued, cozy good reads in 2009.
I thought you were going to honor the OS bloggers who actually died in 2009. Here's to the blessed memories of Dakini Dancer and CarolinaBlue50!
Oh, I do miss the Batzes and Muses; they were the highlight of 5:00.
Thanks for turning me on to some other book loving blogs! :) You guys are great!
Thank you for your kind mention! I'm honored to be on your list.

I am back, although I'll be posting with less frequency. Real Life - aka 15 credits of school work - is going to take much more of my time than before.

Have a great 2010!
Oh, I miss Cynthia Blair too. She is over at though. I just have to remember to go to another blog spot to read her.

Procopius has a lot of great history posts. He's awesome.

Monsieur is always witty and urbane.

Thanks for pointing me to some new posts. I can't believe I missed Batz!
Thanks a lot for sharing the article on century. That's a awesome article. I enjoyed the article a lot while reading. Thanks for sharing such a wonderful article. There are lots of information about on century that also could be awesome.
